Comcast Xfinity App Turns Your iOS Device Into a Remote

+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad

Sure your iPhone or iPad can act as a GPS, eReader, or game center but can you control your television with it? As of today, you can in fact, so long as you're a Comcast Xfinity subscriber and own a compatible digital service. Or, you own an AppleTV, but that's another article. Comcast has launched its new Xfinity app which allows users to browse digital content, watch On Demand videos and even change the channel right from their iOS device. How jealous will your friends be when you whip out your iPhone to peruse the cable guide and turn on the big game?

Right now some folks may be wondering why they should care, considering the fact that they can just use their regular TV remote to browse their cable content. The major appeal of this new app lies in both new search tools and future promise. With the app, users can type in the name of the show they want to watch and Xfinity will instantly retrieve all the relevant listings. This new approach is so much easier than randomly scrolling through channels and times looking for one particular piece of programming. Also cool is the ability to instantly invite friends to watch content with you, so no one ever has to worry about missing Glee ever again.

Comcast is also promising big things in the future, including expanded remote functionality and even video streaming right from your iOS device. Having access to the On Demand library instantly on your device will be a great addition, and if we could watch some of our favorite shows right on the iPad or iPhone without paying extra to download them that would be incredible. We don't yet know what exactly Comcast has in mind for the future, but we're excited to see where the service goes.

The app is available now and it's free so if you're a Comcast subscriber what are you waiting for? This is something definitely worth getting excited over.
