UpTo originally launched in 2012, hoping to revolutionize the way we use our mobile calendar by making it just a bit more social. Now, more than two years later, the app is getting a facelift and a new breath of life with what the company behind the app is calling a relaunch; they feel they needed to start over to truly do the calendar right.

Part of what the new version of UpTo hopes to bring to the already very saturated calendar app market is a new user interface that has "multiple layers," leaving behind the assumption that a calendar must be a flat list. Be sure to head over to the UpTo site for more info, check out the video teaser below, and you can grab the newest version of UpTo off the App Store right now.

Microsoft Office for iPad Expected to Launch March 27

Posted by Stephen Hall on March 18th, 2014

Microsoft Office, which debuted on the iPhone in June of last year, is finally expected to come to the iPad next week via Satya Nadella's first press event as CEO of Microsoft. Members of the media have been receiving invites to this supposedly mobile-first and cloud-first press conference, and according to sources for The Verge the event will mark many major announcements - with Office coming to Apple's tablet being only one.

The iPad version of Microsoft Office is expected to be much like the iPhone version, and as such will require a subscription to Microsoft's Office 365 service to be able to edit documents. Document types supported in this mobile version are the same as the iPhone version; you'll be able to edit within the Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps.

We'll be sure to let you know here at 148Apps when the app is officially announced.

New Checkmark 2 To-Do App With New Lists Feature, Launches Next Tuesday

Posted by Stephen Hall on March 14th, 2014

There are way too many to-do list apps on the App Store, but Checkmark 2 - built by indie development house Snowman - looks to be a promising addition. Checkmark, the app's predecessor, is one of the better-known to-do list apps on the App Store. And this natural iterative upgrade intends to make the Checkmark experience even better.

Checkmark 2 features an all-new lists feature for easily grouping your tasks, location groups for sending location-based to-do reminders, one-tap rescheduling of to-do items, "flexible recurring reminders," location-based reminders that are date-specific, and iCloud integration to make sure the app is always in-sync across your devices. To top it off, the app features an all-new iOS 7 design.

Sound intriguing? You can watch for Checkmark 2 to launch on the App Store on March 18 at a "special introductory price."

Co-Designed by ex-LucasArts designer Bill Tiller, Perils of Man is a new, modern, point-and-click adventure game from Swiss indie studio IF Games - and it's available today.

In Perils of Man: Chapter 1, you play the character of young Ana Eberling, a teenager who has uncovered "a lost technology with the potential to eliminate the uncertainties of life." And that's where the adventure part of this adventure game comes in. She finds herself facing a variety of predicaments "both dangerous and bizarre."

The game features a steampunk aesthetic, beautiful 3D animation, and challenging puzzles - but that's not all it has to offer. It also features over 20 unique characters, clever dialogue, and an original score written by Paul Shapera.

You can find Perils of Man: Chapter 1 (only for the iPad), on the App Store for free.

The release of Konami's much-anticipated Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is drawing nearer, and it wouldn't be a Metal Gear Solid game without some kind of peripheral fun to go along with it. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Announced for iOS - Coming in April Courtesy of Gameloft

Posted by Stephen Hall on March 13th, 2014

Gameloft has announced that it will be the development studio bringing the official The Amazing Spider-Man 2 game to iOS this April when the movie is released. The game will be similar in many ways to Gameloft's original offering, but this sequel is going to be more graphically rich and more detailed in appearance compared to its predecessor. The overall size of the game's open world of Manhattan will be increased as well, giving you more room to sling your web and get the bad guys.

The game is a "premium title," meaning there is almost no chance that it will be a free offering (especially considering it's launching with a movie). But maybe that's for the better; tons of in-app purchases to keep a game sustainable are never fun. Be on the lookout for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 for iOS this April, but for now, check out the teaser trailer below.

Email is becoming a thing of the past for many younger internet users, but for most of us it's still a critical part of our workflow. CloudMagic is already known as a decent iOS email client, but the app recently became a lot more innovative with its new "Cards" feature. The new 1.0.19 update notes boast that Cards allow you to "get all your work done without ever leaving your email."

How exactly? The video below will do a great job of explaining it, but essentially, Cards integrates your favorite internet services like Pocket, Trello, and Evernote into your email inbox. Receive a recipe to cook for dinner later? Just use the Evernote card and save it as you would if you had found that recipe online. But that's just one example; Cards is a whole lot more powerful than that.

You can get CloudMagic with its new "Cards" feature right now on the App Store for free.
