Trauma Ted Review

There’s just something about quirky games that’s hard to resist. Maybe it’s their weird game play, creative graphics or perhaps a combination of other variables. Whatever the reason, these odd ball games are just hard to resist.

Trauma Ted is one of these games. It’s hard not to think of it as unusual after reading the iTunes description. The game is about a depressed teddy cat, which I guess makes the little fellow part teddy bear, part feline. Regardless, he has a horrible chronic migraine and needs help to find his painkillers. It seems he may have somewhat of an addiction or just one bad headache as players must locate a pill in each of the 80 puzzles.

The levels start out relatively easy, and there are hints posted in the background to help players figure out the mechanics. The first few levels take players through the controls. Teddy cat moves when the iPhone is tilted left or right. When it’s time to jump, gamers just tap a finger on the screen. What’s most unique about this game is that falling into an open hole doesn’t always mean death. Sometimes the openings in the game cause teddy cat to fall from the top. The platforms are also wrapped in this game so don’t worry about walking right off the screen.

There are many objects to interact with in each level. For instance, the kitty may have to move blocks or stand on platforms to cause them to fall in order to snatch up that pill. When the levels get more difficult, gamers may find themselves skipping them via the pause menu. There are three magic pills to use in the game, which cause the pill to magically float over to the fur ball. Gamers can get these magic pills back by replaying these levels later.

There aren’t three stars to earn at the end, timers to watch or high scores to seek after. When a level is complete, kitty gets his pill and it’s time to move on to the next one. This makes is possible for gamers to play at their own pace, but it also causes the replay value to suffer. The real disappointment is that Trauma Ted doesn’t have any Game Center integration.

Those who like a good old fashioned maze challenge will most certainly appreciate this puzzler. Trauma Ted is packed with plenty of content, each level presents a new challenge and it’s hard not to crack a smile when teddy cat wraps his furry paws around each pill. C’mon! Help the little guy out.
