Ahh, cricket. That typically British sport that offers slightly strange scoring. You’ll be pleased to know that Stick Cricket 2 doesn’t require much knowledge of the sport, outside of remembering to hit the ball. We’re all pretty thankful of that, right? By being so casual in nature, it ensures that this is a fun game to dip into, working towards those all important three stumps (stars) for each level. Presumably, it’ll scratch a small itch for those hooked by the current Cricket World Cup, too.

Learning to play is easy enough with taps to the left or right, at the appropriate time, allowing you to hit the ball. With the ball coming flying at you in a variety of different ways, timing is everything, especially when dealing with a curve ball. They can catch you out surprisingly easily, especially on later stages.

Each level of the game offers a slightly different objective, such as one requiring you to complete many consecutive shots. Another might involve you trying to hit 6s all the time. These are the cricketing equivalent of a home run, so require the best timing. Another mode might simply involve you completing as many runs as possible within a tight time limit.

It’s simple stuff but the variation means that you’re reasonably entertained as you go along, even if eventually it does turn a bit samey. You can unlock new stages, as well as new equipment which helps you out. Novelty outfits also feature. However, I did find this to be rather buggy, leaving my iPhone crashing a little too frequently.

Stick Cricket 2 isn’t going to be the kind of game you’ll be discussing with friends for weeks to come. It’s a passing distraction, but it is a fairly enjoyable one. After all, what’s not to love about combining stick men and sporting occasions?
