Sky Punks is a familiar concept given that it’s a simple to learn endless runner, but it’s a particularly enjoyable brand of familiarity. Besides looking stunning, it’s a fun romp that’s sure to keep you coming back for more.

Laid out on a level by level basis, Sky Punks remains an endless game because you can continue with each stage even after completing all the objectives. That’s the most noticeable of a selection of little tweaks that makes this game a cut above the rest.

Each level is mostly a matter of swiping around in order to switch lane, jump, or duck, being fairly typical of the genre, but it’s a fast-paced affair. There’s always something to look out for and, refreshingly, objectives change frequently. Some levels might require you to collect plenty of stars while another might expect you to jump over numerous obstacles. It’s a subtle distinction but means that you pay attention to what unfolds more so than usual.

Throughout, Sky Punks looks quite gorgeous with no sign of slowdown as you zip your way around the levels. There’s a kind of anime feeling to the style, interspersed with a more American cartoon-esque appearance and maybe even a hint of Sonic the Hedgehog. It works well at sparking your imagination.

Elsewhere, there’s a plethora of upgrades to unlock, gradually improving your characters’ abilities, as well as giving you a further sense of progression. Sky Punks always gives the sense that there’s something new to do or achieve, although that does mean that you run out of new levels to play through reasonably quickly.

There are challenges to participate in, but you’ll be itching for another update from Rovio Stars. While Sky Punks, on paper, might seem the same as all the rest, it’s a particularly high class breed of endless runner, and one worthy of your attention.
