The name says it all or does it? The Simple Game has an easy concept, but it’s not quite as easy to master. While this game is all about simplicity, it feels like it’s missing something to make it more exciting.

The precision game presents users with a virtual colorful board that is split into equal sized squares that are randomly colored. When a game is started, players will see an arrow pointing either up, down, left or right along with a timer bar that quickly depletes. The goal is to swipe another square that is exactly the same color in the direction that the arrow is pointing before the time runs out completely.

There are three hearts located in the upper left corner. Swiping in the wrong direction, touching the wrong color or letting the time run out results in the loss of a life. Lose all three of lives and the game is over.

You may be wondering what makes The Simple Game so challenging. Aside from the game becoming more fast-paced, the challenge lies in all the various shades of colors on the screen. For instance, if players must find a green square, there may be five different shades of green on the board that are all pretty similar. When the game picks up pace, it’s easy to touch the wrong shade when you’re in a hurry. Players who are color deficient will probably want to steer clear of this game.

I didn’t think I’d like this game when I first started playing because it seemed ludicrous. However, I couldn’t stop playing after just one round. I wanted to see just how far I could make it, and I was determined to beat one of the top five high scores. Of course that didn’t happen, but I had fun trying it. From the bright and simple graphics to the fast-paced game play, it’s impossible to not play The Simple Game more than once because it is addicting.

Although this game is great for players of all ages, I felt like it needed something else to keep my interest for more than one day. For instance, it comes with five badges that can be earned based on skill levels along with a built-in top 5 score board, but unfortunately there’s no Game Center support. Also, incorporating a two-player split screen or another mode would add something extra, but you can’t really expect much from a game called The Simple Game.

The Simple Game isn’t for serious gamers or anyone wanting something that will impress their friends, but it’s a nice relaxing game to play between commercial breaks or in line at the grocery store. It does exactly what it states in the App Store description which is to provide gamers with a really addictive, really simple game. Purchase it today and see if you can make it on the top 5 scoreboard.
