Encouraging users to join together to create thematic collages is an original and fun idea from Pixplit.

Combining collage sensibilities and a hint of Instagram comes Pixplit, an app that encourages users to collaborate with their friends to create photographic masterpieces.

It's an immensely simple idea but one with some potential. Users sign up to an account before either creating their own collages or adding to others. This is done by picking from a number of templates, similar to those seen in other collage apps, before starting the ball rolling by adding some photos. Uploaded to Pixplit, it's then down to others to supplement them with their own photos, eventually leading to a (hopefully) attractive creation.

For instance, while browsing, I found an exercise focused collage including a photo of Yoga, so I added my own photograph of some kettle bells to extend the theme. Other users have combined two halves of a face together to create a Ying and Yang style effect.

It's easily done and only takes seconds to set up correctly, with an array of filters and borders adding to the creativity. Users can discuss things via comments, as well as follow their friends and other people to see what's out there. Sharing facilities are similarly numerous. Related topics can be browsed, along with the ability to resplit a collage so as to create something new from it, therefore extending the possibilities.

It's an interesting way of inspiring creativity amongst people across the world and it's nice to see such attractive collaborative efforts. A cursory glance at the popular section demonstrates such tools can be used to create some stunning artwork. It's a much more creative and imaginative community than something like Instagram, with no sign of cats or food to be seen. While I'm a little unsure of how frequently many users will find themselves gravitating towards Pixplit, given the extensive competition, it deserves being looked at. It adds something new to a cluttered and staid genre.
