Mighty Smighties is a card game designed for kids and people like me (i.e. those slightly intimidated by more complex fare). Its single player mode ends too soon, but it certainly shows promise and will entertain you for a little while.

Each level consists of you dishing out cards in the hope that the number assigned to it or its element is better than the cards your opponent uses. Defeat your opponent three times and you win the match. There’s a fair amount of randomness to this, so you’ll often find yourself relying upon luck. Elements go first so even if you use a card worth 120 points against one worth two points, it won’t matter if the elements work against you. Sometimes, this can be a bit frustrating.

During the quest mode you have to switch between Normal, Power, and Epic stages in order to unlock new areas. The latter two add an extra level of randomness by allowing you to boost your cards temporarily. This can make all the difference at times. It’s all quite fun, but the quest side of things adds quite quickly, with the crux of Mighty Smighties reliant upon random battles against real players.

This is where you’ll spend a lot of time, as well as through boosting your cards and upgrading them. Boosting is done via a simple Match-3 game, which is a bit more interesting than just waiting to see if you succeed through a card combination. Mighty Smighties remains simple, but that’s where its charm comes from.

It could do with a few more single player levels, and a less restrictive energy meter, but it’s a mostly fun introduction to an increasingly popular genre. The "gotta collect 'em all" mentality of getting new cards is reasonably addictive and certainly cute.
