If people would give love to each other in real life like they can in LovePowerup – irrespective of color or creed – then the world would be a much better place.

"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace."

This famous quote from Jimi Hendrix was one of the motivations for the creation of LovePowerup, an app that really wants to spread the love. The idea that users can send love to someone they have never met is a sweet and wonderful concept, and it's heart-warming to think that a person who might be having an awful day on the other side of the world could be made that little bit happier after receiving love from a complete stranger. Love can either be sent anonymously or to friends and family, who can be invited to join in via Facebook or email.

To send some love, hold down a finger on the centre of the screen and charge the heart, before swiping upwards. To request it, simply do the same and swipe downwards. The interface is simple and easy to use, with only a few options and tabs available. It won't win any style awards, but it's pleasant enough to look at and won't detract from the user experience.

Now, there is no way of saying this without sounding like a love-hating human, but I can see myself getting a little tired of this app. The honest intention is there, but the whole thing just doesn't feel that exciting to use. The anonymous nature of the app means the satisfaction or personal touch necessary for the idea to really hit home is unfortunately absent. A profile picture combined with the first name of the recipient would make the whole experience much more involving. Furthermore, it feels slightly one-sided to send love more than you receive it. That sounded selfish didn't it? That's not the point, is it? Can someone please send me some love? I think I really need it.

In all seriousness though, if the user is not an awful person like myself, maybe LovePowerup can bring some happiness and positivity into their life. There's something to be said for modern technology and this application has the power to make someone feel loved or positive with all of the effort of one swipe. I think that puts us one step closer to Mr. Hendrix's dream. Amen.
