Iconic Review

For those with busy days ahead of them, it’s nice to have a game that you can dip into for a couple of minutes here and there. Something that, even when you’re not playing, you can think about so as to progress later on. Iconic is that kind of game. It’s a trivia game in which you have to decipher what icons mean, and it’s quite fun.

Each level offers up a simple picture of a few icons representing the name of a person, film, or piece of music. Some are easy enough, such as a picture of an iron and a man translating to Iron Man. Others involve a bit more thought. That’s the beauty of Iconic: you can play through a few levels in a matter of seconds, then be stumped for a while as you try to figure out one that doesn’t make as much sense in your mind.

Controls are solely a matter of tapping on letters to choose them. There are hints that can be used too, with each costing a set amount of coins. Coins can be gained either through in-app purchases or by completing levels. The former method is much more effective given that you only earn one coin per level completion, but you don’t want to rush through Iconic too quickly anyhow.

It’s a suitably entertaining concept, if fairly laid back and casual. There aren’t any timers or anything that wants to rush you. Instead, it’s all about the journey as you unlock new puzzles. You can ask friends on Facebook for help but that’s as far as socializing features extend.

For that reason, Iconic isn’t going to be one for those who want a specific purpose to their games. This is the kind of thing that you play and then think about through the day, hopefully returning to correctly decipher that tricky clue from before. For many, it’ll get under your skin after a time.
