Heavy Pillar is the kind of game you play for five minutes then never really think about again. That’s both a good and bad thing, really. Still, while you’re playing it (especially with a friend) it’ll be fun.

The idea is incredibly simple. Each side is competing to push a heavy pillar over, wiping out the opposition. Pushing it is a matter of jumping by simply tapping on the screen. One tap causes you to jump with another more likely to propel you in the correct direction.

Timing is everything here, both in terms of setting up that jump and in terms of combatting your opponent’s attempts to do the same to you. It’s a little awkward at first, but practice means you figure out when is best to tap that screen.

It’s kind of fun and certainly frantically paced. You can play on your own, but that’s quite boring compared to same-device local multiplayer. That’s where things turn much more interesting, backed up by a selection of game modes adjusting how long each game takes. The physics engine ensures that Heavy Pillar feels consistently lively and you rally can’t take a second to rest on your laurels. Things can turn against you fast, which can be fun to experience.

Heavy Pillar isn’t revolutionary, but sometimes all you want is some mindless fun. There should be more games you can play with a friend sitting next to you and Heavy Pillar scratches that itch reasonably well.
