There’s something steadily relaxing about most Match-3 games. They’re the kind of thing that you can pick up within seconds, and while they’re far from adrenaline-fests, they’re kind of satisfying. Gummy Drop! is that kind of game. It tries to change things up a bit by offering the ability to build structures as you go along, but it’s a fairly solid (if unspectacular) Match-3 game.
You leap from level to level, swiping gummys around in order to match them up and, hopefully, watch as you create a cascade of matches. Some levels require reaching a certain high score while others involve matching together certain types of gummy. Then there are the stages that involve clearing certain tiled areas, which are frequently trickier than the others. However, it’s still pretty simple and most levels only take a couple of minutes at most to play. If you run out of allocated moves, you can spin a wheel for the chance for more moves, assuming you have enough coins to do so.
Coins are the main premium currency here but it’s fairly easy to dodge the need for them. There are limited lives too, just like in many puzzle games like this, which are more restrictive and likely to halt your progress occasionally. Adding some purpose to your adventure are the opportunities to build structures through the use of the brick resources that you gain along the way, but I didn’t find myself particularly enthused by this.
Still, as a typical Match-3 game, Gummy Drop! remains quite entertaining. It’s not as revolutionary as you’d hope but it’s sure to be fun for fans of the genre. Just don’t be surprised if it doesn’t stick in your memory for a particularly long time; it’s standard popcorn gaming.
