Sometimes you just want to play a game and switch your brain off for a little while, right? Dungeon Boss is the ideal game for that occasion. It’s a very simple RPG that’s more focused on giving you gradual gratification than it is trying to challenge you in any way. As a bite sized slice of adventuring, it’s pretty enjoyable.

Each chapter of the game consists of you trawling through various parts of a dungeon. Actual exploration is fairly hands-off though, with you automatically going from area to area. In each section, your main form of interaction comes from choosing what enemy to attack first and what special skill to utilize. It’s simple stuff with skills recharging after a few turns and the option for using potions too. There’s the choice of switching on auto-attack too but that seems a little lazy. More satisfaction comes from participating yourself, especially as different characters offer different strengths against certain foes.

After a few battles, you end up fighting it out with a boss, which is still mostly the same but with the chance of some cool loot thrown into the deal.

Where things get a little more detailed is outside of the battles. You can use that time to level up your characters and have them evolve, becoming even more powerful. It’s still relatively simply done, being very much a casual RPG, but it’s fun to tweak.

A plentiful supply of social features as well as daily rewards further ensure that there’s generally a good reason to keep checking in to Dungeon Boss. It’s not exactly an original game, with various elements being seen elsewhere, but it’s still pretty fun. While it won’t scratch that deep RPG itch you’ll still enjoy being able to dip into it for five minutes and still achieve something.
