Coinverter Review

Coinverter is a great representation of the famous K.I.S.S principle (Keep It Simple, Stupid)! Designed for anyone with the need to convert amounts from one currency to another, the app is straightforward and beautifully designed with an iOS 7 feel and style.

Running Coinverter for the first time gives users the option of seeing the various parts of the interface via a simple hints overlay. Once moving past this screen, the actual app interface is super simple to use and understand. Simply typing on the keypad at the bottom of the screen enters a value into the main currency block, and the calculated rates in other currencies are immediately displayed in their respective rows.

The main currency is determined by the region format of the iOS device, but it can be changed to any of the over 160 included world currencies on the Settings screen. Users may also use the Settings screen to customize what currencies will be displayed and in what order they will be shown. A switch on the Settings screen enables automatic exchange rate updates from the Coinverter server, and rates may also be updated manually with the press of a button. Users should be aware of the disclaimer that reads, “These currency rates are approximate and may differ from your local currency rates.” While an internet connection is required to update the exchange rates, it is not necessary to use Coinverter once the rates have been refreshed.

Users are not limited to typing in the amount under the main currency. Simply touching a different currency will set it as active, and then entering values on the keypad will put them in that active currency field. All other currency fields, including the main currency, immediately refresh to reflect this changed value. This is a great feature that allows one to quickly check a conversion from a different currency without having to navigate to the Settings screen and set a new main currency just to make the check.

Users may quickly send their conversion results to others via SMS, email, Twitter, and Facebook, as well as copy the results and paste them into any other app as desired. The shared information includes a screenshot of the Coinverter app, showing exactly the same currencies seen by the user.
