There's not a lot to Club Penguin Sled Racer. I don't mean in a minimalistic but stylish sort of sense. I mean there really isn't much to it. It's a barebones Endless Racing game that's going to really struggle to hook anyone in for any length of time.
You control one of the Club Penguin family as you race down an icy course of obstacles and go faster ramps. You don't get a choice of penguins or anything else particularly varied. There aren't any coins to collect, upgrades to profit from, or even any kind of structure to the entire experience.
Instead, all you do is keep on racing to see how far you can get. Controls are simple enough with taps to the left and right dictating where you go. There are plenty of obstacles to dodge as well as go faster ramps to aim for. Oddly, at times, you can rocket through some obstacles in a way that suggests there's no real logic to it all.
The entire point of Club Penguin Sled Racer is to race yourself as there's no Game Center support, meaning you can't compete with friends.
Because of the level of simplicity you'd be forgiven for assuming that Club Penguin Sled Racer at least does its few basic things very well, but that's not the case here. One notable issue is that an ad banner clutters the screen between sessions and, if you hit the play button just before this, messes up your turn. A bizarre issue that's quite irritating, although at least there's no energy system to really infuriate here. The crucial problem with Club Penguin Sled Racer is it just doesn't offer enough to grab your attention.
There's an appropriately endless supply of Endless Runners on the App Store and pretty much all of them offer so much more than Club Penguin Sled Racer. Perhaps young children might like controlling a beloved penguin but even that's going to outstay its welcome all too swiftly.
