The best new games we played this week - December 22

It's another week of excellent new games on the App Store. Again, we see the return of some familiar faces and a few new titles to shake things up a bit. Pick up any of these games to enjoy during the holiday break--we're sure you'll find something here to satisfy your mobile game craving.

Prizefighters is an excellent mobile alternative to Punch Out!!. It's a smooth arcade-style brawler that's quite easy to learn, making it an appealing choice for both newcomers and genre veterans alike. You'll work your way to the top of the ranks in this frills-free beat'em up.

Sonic returns to mobile for this endless running adventure. It's quite fun actually, so if you had any doubts, don't hesitate to give this one a try. As Sonic dashes along, you'll have to jump to avoid obstacles and collect rings, giving it that classic Sonic feel.

Bridge Constructor Portal

As you might have already guessed by the title, this game mashes up the best bits of Bridge Constructor and Portal into a fun little parcel that's sure to please fans of either franchise. You'll perform a series of tests in the familiar Aperture Labs, using portals to fill in the gaps when you need to. GLaDOS will be there to offer her unique brand of encouragement along the way.

Getting Over It

If you enjoyed the sadistic mechanics of QWOP, you'll probably enjoy Getting Over It, the newest project from developer Bennett Foddy. Maneuver yourself up a rock face while sitting pretty in an iron cauldron. You'll use a sledgehammer to climb your way to the top. We're not going to lie--like QWOP, it's an immensely frustrating experience, but for some bizarre reason it's quite hard to put down.
