Reigns: Her Majesty guide - how to use every item

Ruling a kingdom isn't easy--doubly so for a queen whose every decision is questioned by the other factions seeking a slice of power. Reigns: Her Majesty builds on the original game's swipey tactics, adding items that you can use to move the story forward and potentially save your life. This spoiler free guide will show you how to use these items effectively so that you will reign long and triumphantly.

The Pistol

The pistol can be used to save yourself if you get into a pickle. If the king threatens to end your rule, use the pistol instead of swiping one of the "What . . ." cards to get a second chance. You can only use this once per reign, however.

The pistol is also one of the key items for moving the story forward, so pay attention to clues.

The Spellbook

Use the spellbook on animals to talk to them. They might have secret information for you. The cat and fox, in particular, are helpful for progressing the story. You can also talk to the dog to send you into the maze should you need to.

The Destiny Clock

Recruit the Doctor and show her the Red Spellbook to receive a broken clock. You can then share it with the Merchant, who will repair it and transform it into the Destiny Clock. You can use the Destiny Clock to change your astrological sign at will. When you're in the Maze, just use the clock when the symbol (hidden somewhere in each room of the maze) matches the astrological sign you're aiming for. We heard that moving your sign to Cancer is particularly helpful for disciples of the All-Mother.

The Perfume

The perfume is another helpful tool to get you out of sticky situations. If you're about to die, try playing the perfume, which will help distract the Cardinal, rebellious townsfolk, or the army.
