Last week on Pocket Gamer

Posted by TPG Staff on February 13th, 2017

At the beginning of each week we like to take a look at what’s been happening of late over on our sister website PocketGamer.

As you probably gathered from the name, PocketGamer concerns itself with all things portable gaming. That includes mobile games, handheld games, and even Nintendo’s forthcoming Switch console.

Here’s what’s been occupying the thoughts and gaming time of the PocketGamer team over the past week.

Social gaming on Android

One of the regular features PG likes to run is a summary of the 25 best mobile games in any given genre. This week’s selection didn’t relate to any one genre, however. We’re talking multiplayer Android games.

By summarising all the best Android games that place social play at their core, this is a suitably eclectic list of games. Expect online shooters, turn-based board games, and plenty in between.

Feeling particularly sociable? Check out PG’s list.

Not long now

Nintendo will release its Switch console on March 3. If you think you’re excited, we’re willing to wager you’re not quite as excited as the PocketGamer team.

It hasn’t been a stellar week for Switch news, but we did get a new trailer for the Switch console’s flagship game, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Nintendo also provided a video overview of the Switch console’s capabilities. It seems Nintendo is looking to avoid the sense of confusion surrounding the launch of its previous console, the Wii U.

The week in mobile games

We wouldn’t call the last week or so of mobile gaming a classic, but we did get Heart Star - a cute colour-switching platform puzzler that the PG team seemed to appreciate.

Conversely, the team was more than a little disappointed by Lords of the Fallen, which turned out to be a second rate Infinity Blade clone with a quite frankly preposterous price tag.

With Fire Emblem: Heroes still providing plenty of entertainment more than a week on from release, however, it’s not like we’re scratching around for something to play.
