Before you hit the trail and become a dog sledding legend, there’s actually a fair bit of prep work to be done. In Dog Sled Saga, you’re not only racing, you’re also building and caring for a team of furry friends. There’s a lot to consider—personalities, physical strengths and weaknesses, and even breed preferences.

When you start your first game, you can choose up to three dogs to join your crew. Here are a few tips to help you create the best dog sled team right out of the gate.

Opposites attract
You’ll notice that each available dog has one of three personality types: obedient, strong, and steady. Each of these traits affects how a dog performs and reacts to new situations during races.

Different personalities also play a part in determining which spot on the team a dog will take—lead, middle, or wheel. It’s not guaranteed, but picking dogs with varied personalities means you’re more likely to have team members that can specialize in a particular role.

Pay attention to specializations
The game doesn’t tell you right off the bat what your dog will be good at. The only way to learn is by racing the dog and levelling them up. You’ll find that a dog’s ability for a particular position ranges from none, to able, to natural.

You’ll find your dog’s specific aptitudes under their profile after you’ve completed a few races. Once you figure out what your dog is good at, take advantage of those skills! If your dog is a natural as the lead dog, make sure he’s always in the lead, etcetera.

A speedy dog is a happy dog
This might seem obvious, but your dogs are at their best when they’re happy. That means giving them a little extra TLC during downtime. Make sure that your dogs are getting a good balance of proper rest to eliminate fatigue, and steady practice to keep their busy brains working. You can plan your work regimen based on your dogs’ needs. For some extra lovin’, you can tap the screen over your pups to pet them.

Raising a team of digital puppies to be ace dog sled racers takes a bit of experimentation and work, but with these tips you’ll be swimming in sponsorships and championship trophies.
