At first glance you might likenWarhammer 40,000: Regicide to Chess - and you'd be right.

Regicideputs its own spin on the classic board game though, so some of your tried and true methods may not work quite so well here.

Not to worry though, as we've got a few tips and tricks to help you get started.

Memorise abilities

There are two modes in Warhammer 40,000: Regicide- Classic and Regicide. Classic is Chess as you know and love it, while Regicide adds some turn-based strategy elements into the mix.

The biggest change here is that you can use a bunch of different abilities during the Initiative Phase, like chuck grenades, take cover, or unleash psychic abilities to gain the upper hand over your foes.

You can tap on each ability to get a rough idea of what it'll do, but some essential information is missed out.

For example, some abilities have cooldowns and others require more initiative points. You'll need to memorise all of this to make sure you're using your abilities optimally.

Live together, die alone

In Chess, the Queen is particularly powerful because of her ability to move in any direction, and you can safely throw her into the fray if you're vigilant.

While the piece’s moves are the same in Regicide, diving deep into enemy territory isn't as good an idea as it might be in a regular Chess game.

Because the enemy can kill your pieces by shooting them as well as capturing them, getting your Queen surrounded by opposing pawns is a good way to lose it, even if they’re safe from being captured.

Choose your playstyle

Do you like to pick off your opponents, or would you rather charge in and hit hard? That's the difference between playing as Space Marines or Orks, and another key way that Regicide mixes up the Chess formula.

Space Marines have a much better chance of hitting an enemy from a distance using snap shots, while Orks can hit a lot harder but need to be up close. Play with both to figure out which style suits you better.
