Five For Friday: Week of January 12

Posted by Jennifer Allen on January 13th, 2012

January is in full swing now and the same can be said for the App Store which is offering boundless potential as always. As is customary on a Friday, we've taken the opportunity of highlighting five of the best apps and games that have hit the store in the past seven days. Hit the break for all five of the apps you might have missed.

NIR Color
NIR Color's main aim is to add a dash of color to any photograph. Using 'near infrared' light technology, the app allows users to add various 'color' filters to add violet, blue, green, yellow, orange and red colors to images thus turning a regular landscape into something visually spectacular. It takes seconds to adjust thanks to its simple to use slider controls. Ideal for those of us suffering drab Winter days and in need of a more cheery outlook.

Hatchi
People of a certain age will immediately adore Hatchi. It's the iOS version of the classic toy: the Tamagotchi. That little keychain-sized toy that kept many a child awake half the night as they kept up with all the feeding, cleaning and playing that was required to keep the ever demanding creature alive. From my experience, I'd say taking care of a real pet was less stressful but there's no denying that there was a certain charm.

Bounce A Lot!
Another return to a bygone time is Bounce A Lot!, a game reminisicent of the classic Game & Watch titles of old, before any other form of handheld gaming was available. The idea is simple: people are falling out of buildings and must be saved by the careful placement of a trampoline. Simple yet addictive across many different stages.

A cross between a blogging tool and photography app, HipGeo lets users create their own travel blog and post and share photos, all while keeping track of the location via GPS. Social networking means likeminded individuals can interact about trips and travels. Similar services do exist but this one combines everything possible in an attractive and fun way.
