There's no denying that Helix Jump is addictive. It's the sort of game where you'll sit down to play a few games only to see an hour fly by before you know what's happening. But it's also a tricky beast, and you're going to die an awful lot before you finally start to get to grips with it.

And that's what this article is for. We're going to walk you through some of the hints and tips we've discovered from playing the game so that your high-scores are going to put everyone else's to shame. We've put the hours in to make yours count more, so let's skip the tittle tattle and get on with it.

Get comfy

Having your hand in the right position to start with is going to set you in good stead to get a high score. Hold your phone in the most comfortable way you can, and find out whether your better at the game with your thumb or your finger.

Another tip is to ensure you can see as much of the bottom of the screen as possible. Knowing what you're jumping into is really important, and it gives you more time to react. For the most part, small movements of your digits are all you need to succeed, so make sure you're not blocking your view.

Smash it

When you fall a number of levels, you'll notice that your ball changes color. When it's like this, it can smash through anything. That means you can land on a tile that would normally kill you and instantly destroy it.

It's a hard skill to get to grips with, but it's how you're going to get the highest scores. Every level you pass while you're charged will give you points, and you'll earn even more when you smash into the last level. The dream is to do an entire level in one go, but that's going to take a lot of practice.

Wait for it

Take your time when you're choosing where to fall. There's no rush, and acting quickly sometimes sees you falling into a trap that a couple of seconds of patience would have revealed to you. And there's no penalty for doing it, either.

A couple of extra bounces can often be the difference between hitting your mark and messing everything up. Watch what the other levels below you are doing, and choose the right time to dart down.

Watch the edges

If you make a quick move as you're dropping down to the next level, it's possible you could fall foul of the edges of the level you're falling from. And if those edges are the wrong color, your run is going to come to an ignominious end.

Try not to make quick moves when there are dangerous edges about, and if you have to, make sure you wait a fraction longer than you think is necessary. You can save a move with quick fingers, but if you're dead you're not coming back. Except...

Use the videos

If you're in the middle of a great run and you die, then it's a good idea to watch a video to get an extra life. After all, everyone else is going to be doing the same, so you might as well make use of everything that the game gives you.

There's no point using them to continue runs that aren't going well, but if you were in the right rhythm and made a silly mistake, watching the retry video can put you back on course to smash your high score.
