You've played games like Dawnbringer before. It's impossible not to fire up the latest from Kiloo and be instantly reminded of Infinity Blade and its sequels.

Succeeding at this gamerequires good reflexes, the ability to memorize patterns, and not a little bit of patience, since you'll be doing some of the same tasks repeatedly. It's not a complicated affair, but does that mean there aren't tidbits of information to help you on your quest?

Of course not, and things like that are our raison d'être. Follow along with our Dawnbringer tips, tricks and hints and you'll be that much better prepared to bring sharp, pointy justice to your brother.

I get around

Unlike similar games of this ilk, nothing in Dawnbringer is on a rail, and it's got a very open world for the most part. To travel around, you simply tap on the screen to get going and tap again to stop, which the game is good about telling you. Turning is done by holding on the screen and sliding in either direction, a concept which is not as well communicated.

Urns can be smashed and chests opened by tapping on them when you are close enough, and other NPCs and objects sporting an exclamation point can be interacted with in similar fashion. Eventually, you will also unlock the fast transport system, allowing you to instantly travel to any unlocked waypoint by tapping on the map icon on the game's main screen and selecting it.

Timing is everything

Here's a fact of life you're just going to have to accept in this game: Almost everything you meet will be bigger and stronger than you, and will definitely have more health. Going all offense is the quickest way to die.

Fortunately, enemies attack with very distinct motions so you know which way to parry after seeing them just a few times, and they also tend to follow patterns. Then the trick is mostly to time your parry just right, swiping in the exact opposite direction from which the attack is coming.

A Perfect Parry will do damage to the enemy, but otherwise you need to sneak in your own attacks in-between parries. Failure to do so will have the side effect of death.

Potions: the key to healthy living

Since you regain no health in-between battles in Dawnbringer, you'll want to avoid taking any unnecessary damage. The other thing you'll find helpful is to have a potion or two handy at all times.

The potion icon is all the way to the left at the bottom of the main screen. Tapping it will bring up a screen that will either allow you to drink one or brew more. An additional potion slot can be purchased with gold, but it's expensive.

There are two additional ways to regain your health. One is to smash the green-colored urns you encounter around the world. The other is to watch a video after you die, restoring you to full health but also requiring you to restart the battle that killed you.

No loot to be had

Surprisingly, you won't find any weapons or armor to aid you in your adventures. Improving your stats is done entirely by upgrading the weapons and gear you already have, piece by piece.

Tapping the crossed sword icon at the bottom of the screen will show you a view of Kastor, along with the five pieces of his equipment that can be improved. Each upgrade takes a different amount of resources you find on your journeys, which is why you should be smashing any breakable objects you come across at every possible opportunity.
