Webzen’s acclaimed MU Origin 2 recently launched on iOS and Android, shaking up the MMORPG genre in the process. It’s a huge game with a lot of different systems and modes to learn, so we’ve put together a handy beginner’s guide to give you a head start on the competition.

Selecting your starter class

After booting up the game for the first time, you’ll be presented with a choice of three different starter classes. First off, there’s the nimble, angelic Elf whose long-range attacks and assassination skills can devastate any enemy. The overwhelmingly powerful Dark Knight is a master of swordsmanship, though he still prefers to crush any demons with his immense strength. Then there’s the Dark Wizard, a mage of sorts, whose expert manipulation of the elements makes him a deadly force from afar.

If you just can’t make up your mind, and I don’t blame you, you could try them all out for a bit using any of the 4 character slots.

Controls and combat

While you may initially feel a little overwhelmed by the scale of MU Origin 2, you should know that Webzen has done a stellar job of keeping the controls intuitive and easy to pick up. You’ll control your character by dragging along your touchscreen, much like a digital thumbstick. Skills are triggered through a radial dial that can be switched around depending on what you need at that particular moment.

You’ll also have the choice between a couple different ways of playing. Perhaps you like to feel completely in charge of your character’s movement, attacks, and skills, or maybe you’d rather have that taken care for you by the optional auto-play mechanic? The choice is really yours, and there’s no “wrong” way to play. It’s best to switch to auto-play when grinding, though it’d be wise to take full control when fighting bosses that the AI struggles to contend with.

Completing quests and leveling up

Most of MU Origin 2’s quests have been carefully crafted to suit specific player levels, so sometimes you might find yourself a little underpowered if you’ve been neglecting to do any side activities. While main quests are the fastest way to gain EXP, you can always switch over to auto-play and have your character cut through some enemy hordes to boost your levels.

Those who aren’t the biggest fans of grinding don’t need to worry as there are plenty of other ways to make EXP, including optional side content like daily quests and dungeons.

Heading out to explore the game’s sizable world is a rewarding and exciting endeavour, especially once you get yourself a reliable mount. Mounts come in all shapes and sizes, and they drastically reduce travel times. You never know what sort of loot or secrets you’ll uncover once you venture off the beaten path, so exploration is well worth the effort.

All about PvP

MU Origin 2 is of course an MMORPG, so you can expect PvP to be a large part of the experience. 1v1 battles against other players can be incredibly intense and rewarding, though I’d wager that guild-based team skirmishes are where things really start to heat up. These epic fights task you with completing various objectives while simultaneously attempting to fight off other players.

Beyond the guild battles, there are also unique PvP events to get involved in. With these, you’ll have to adapt to a wide range of different modes, some of which include 1v1 duels and even battle royale.

With the basics now explained, you should have no problem starting on your epic quest into the incredible world of MU Origin 2. So make a quick trip to the App Store or Google Play to download the game for free.
