An avid Apple fan and hobbyist writer, I'm excited to write for 148apps.com. I enjoy fast-paced, storyless games and useful utility apps. Sometimes a quirky little app comes along that I find delightful, but it's life is short on my iPod Touch. I hope my reviews help you make informed decisions about your purchases. If you enjoy my reviews, please read my personal website.

Racer

iPhone App - Designed for iPhone, compatible with iPad
By Jason Philo on August 5th, 2009
Our rating: starstarstarstarblankstar :: RECOMMENDED
Racer is a beautifully graphic game from a new developer Tatem Games. This game has a lot of style, but a little room to grow in functionality. It's not a bad game though and its style alone is enough to encourage playing it.

321 Jump!

iPhone App - Designed for iPhone, compatible with iPad
By Jason Philo on August 4th, 2009
Our rating: starstarstarstarblankstar :: HABIT FORMING
I was skeptical at first, but this game is surprisingly fun. I found myself saying "just one more time" way too many times. For only a buck, you get some entertaining trademark infringements, entertaining screams of demise, and happy fun time.

Playlist Alarm Clock

iPhone App - Designed for iPhone, compatible with iPad
By Jason Philo on August 3rd, 2009
Our rating: starstarstarstarblankstar ::
Finally—a great app that uses your own music as an alarm clock. Inexpensive, easy to use, and not annoying, this app is great if you like using your iPhone/iPod Touch as an alarm.

1945 Ace Destroyer

iPhone App - Designed for iPhone, compatible with iPad
By Jason Philo on July 28th, 2009
Our rating: starstarhalfstarblankstarblankstar :: DISAPPOINTING
I've never disliked a WWII fighter game… until now. Oversimplistic graphics, no lives (2 hits you're dead and start over), and choppy movement make Yar's Revenge more appealing. If it got a major overhaul it would be a fun game, but not right now.

LCD Clock - Clock & Calendar

iPhone App - Designed for iPhone, compatible with iPad
By Jason Philo on July 14th, 2009
Our rating: starstarstarstarblankstar :: CLEAN
I really enjoy an app that exploits the usability of the iPhone and replaces another household item. LCD Clock does just that by giving you an easy way to see the time and date without having to have something else on your desk or nightstand.

Shopper

+ Universal & Apple Watch App - Designed for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch
By Jason Philo on July 7th, 2009
Our rating: starstarstarstarhalfstar :: RECOMMENDED
Shopper is an amazing tool for grocery lists. It's easy to use, exceedingly functional, and there's a great attention to detail in the development of this app. It goes for only .99, but I honestly wonder why it doesn't cost more.

smackBOTS

iPhone App - Designed for iPhone, compatible with iPad
By Jason Philo on June 26th, 2009
Our rating: starstarstarstarblankstar :: MINDLESS FUN
SmackBOTS is a fun game for kids. Nothing entertains me more than a game I can dive right into without having to worry about strategy and story lines. The animation is simple, yet amusing and the game play is challenging in spite of the deceptively easy c

Space Ace

iPhone App - Designed for iPhone, compatible with iPad
By Jason Philo on June 22nd, 2009
Our rating: starstarstarstarhalfstar :: CLASSIC GOODNESS
I was so excited to see this show up in the App store. Not only was Don Bluth a great story teller (Secret of Nimh, Dragon's Lair), but this brought back strong memories of being in the arcade as a kid. Everything is preserved in this game with the except

VIN Hunter

iPhone App - Designed for iPhone, compatible with iPad
By Jason Philo on June 18th, 2009
Our rating: starstarstarstarblankstar :: VERY HANDY
VIN Hunter is a tool to help people keep cars organized when they’re shopping. It’s an easy app to use, but won’t have a lot of reuse potential for most people.

FeedFalls

By Jason Philo on June 17th, 2009
Our rating: starstarstarblankstarblankstar :: NOT RECOMMENDED
FeedFalls is pretty to look at, but there's not a lot of function with this form. Imagine channel surfing without ever finding something you want to watch. Now do that with a news paper.

By Jason Philo on June 16th, 2009
Our rating: starstarstarstarblankstar :: RECOMMENDED
GPS Photorino is an alright picture app. It's main feature is labeling your location on a picture frame. If you're always taking pictures on the iPhone and want an easy on-the-spot way to customize them, go for it.
