A worthy replacement. Well, almost.

This is a solid NetHack app that's easy to use. However, it seems to be missing some functions and commands, most notably the ability to choose a name for your adventurer, the ability to name your pets, and the ability to choose to partially pick up and set down stacks of items, or separate stacks into smaller stacks. And that function is really important, since it's kinda hard to manage your inventory with the current "all-or-nothing" system. Still, it's a solid NetHack experience that's faithful to the PC original.

Love that it introduced me to the game, but frustrated with bugs

As other have mentioned, you’ll frequently get your game file wiped for various reasons. It seems to happen randomly upon switching to another app and switching back, or after opening the app again. I’m frustrated because I had a really awesome game where I had acquired a nice weapon from my god and I had gotten quite far (for me at least. Level 9). But suddenly, all gone with no idea how to recover it. I’m trying to play smarter after picking the game back up, so there’s now a greater chance that these kinds of crashes/wipes occur since I get a bit farther.

I can’t be too bummed out because the base game is so incredible. I will try playing on some of the public servers instead for a more reliable experience. The iPhone port has gotten me through many flights, bus rides, boring meetings, and waiting rooms. There’s so much depth and I love how the craziest stuff can happen to you. It becomes really memorable when you get randomly smote by a god or you die on the quest to locate your pet that fell through a trap door. I just with the iPhone port were less buggy because I’d rather have touch controls than get used to vi-key.

FIXED!?!

Ok so I started playing on this app a year and a half ago and the version then was quite buggy. I had an Archaeologist that got to the Astral Plane before the whole game glitched out and became unplayable and unrecoverable. I put it down for a good while, but of course I couldn’t resist picking it back up again. But now in the past month, with their new updates from 3.4.3 to 3.6.7, I have fully ascended 2 different characters, an Arc and a Priest. No noticeable or game damaging bugs can be spoken of from my runs. If that’s the case, this may now be the best app on here. Spread the word.
