Description

"Creatures Such as We" is a philosophical interactive romance novel by Lynnea Glasser, where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based—without graphics or sound effects—and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

Living on the moon is lonely, and stressful, and exhausting. Video games have always offered you an escape to a better life. The easy, happy life you wish you had. Which makes it so frustrating when the game you've been playing ends badly. But you have a chance to figure it out, because the next tourist group is the designers. You can debate with them about art, inspire them with the beauty of outer space, get closer to any one specific designer in particular, and finally find out how to get the ending you always wanted.

Creative; played more than once

This is a very unique, creative game. I’ve already played this game through twice and might even end up playing it again. For anyone looking for diverse character design, this game is the best I’ve seen (age, gender, ethnicity, +). It is a very meta storyline where the player plays a game within a game and has philosophical discussions about game design with fictional game creators (I swear I made that sound way more boring than it actually is!). The philosophical discussions are the best part in my opinion.

The only thing I disliked was toward the end there is one choice that asks the player to put in any adjective. I had such a hard time finding adjectives that worked! It would instead say it didn’t know that adjective yet. I tried about two dozen adjectives before I got one to work, which was very frustrating. Then, I decided to see how many I could get to work at all. I only found 4 words that worked, though I’d guess there are a few more. Maybe a multiple choice would work better here? Hack for anyone who is stuck, all of these words can work, but get different results: Honest, Profound, Satisfying, Perfect.

Absolutely Phenomenal.

This.
This game is amazing. I am speechless, but at the same time I have so much to say about it.
Everything flowed so well together! I had my doubts about the game-within-a-game thing, but it blended perfectly with the story. It didn’t feel awkward or complicated or forced. I also love how there’s options for your character. You can choose your own race, age, and gender (more than two!) and all the options for these categories are extremely inclusive. It’s great. I also love the humor and interactions between all the characters. They seemed very genuine. The philosophical questions really make you think, and so do all of the choices you are presented with. I have no shame in saying that I thought very hard before choosing anything. The waiting isn’t bad at all, it’s nothing compared to other story games. And the price for premium isn’t unreasonable either. I can tell that a lot of effort was put into the game, and it’s rare to see such a developed story in most games now. I appreciated it a lot. Kudos to the author!

Truly phenomenal

I love this game SOOO much!

I like how it’s quite diverse. Even if you’re going for one character, the rest of the characters are included, and don’t just completely fade into the background. I also get a lot of imagery when playing games like this— and let me tell you, some wonderful art could be made from this. It would be interesting to see you guys make a visual game! I’d be very on board with seeing that. This game makes you question quite a lot of things— such as views on life, on death, on artificial intelligence— on change. Change is a really big theme here, I feel like. I definitely feel like it’s something to be questioned a lot in reality. Everyone always wants to change a portion of their life; whether it was something as small as forgetting to close your door, or something as big as just completely resetting. I love the philosophy put into this, it genuinely gets you thinking.

Thank you for such a wonderful experience!
