Honest Review of Logic Pro X- "FLEXING TIME AND PITCH" video
I found this video to be quite indispensable for learning the deep ins and outs of Flexing both Pitch and Time in Apple's new Logic Pro X. The feature is such an important new aspect of Logic Pro X, and is rather complicated to attempt quickly learning the tools and procedures on your own. I even learned a bit about the "old" pitch correction techniques I've used for years, right from the beginning.
One thing you will have to do is make the time to study this video and occasionally actually take some notes. The narrator moves along rather quickly, and you have to pay attention to what pointer or tool he is using to accomplish what you're watching him do. He is however, very informative and even adds a bit of mild humor; which actually adds value as he shows you some of the things you would experiment with anyway… like "what happens if I over-correct pitch". Overall, it was a very worthwhile "time-well-spent" and informative way to actually see how the Pitch/Time Flexing is correctly applied. In my humble opinion, its is a tad pricey on a "per video" basis. You can purchase the same videos on iPad for half of the cost of these same video tutorials on the Mac App Store. Although having the video on the actual machine you're using is nice. Especially when you are utilizing two monitor screens.
The video is very nicely done and what you learn you will use, gaining great insight on how to "properly" execute the tasks that have you creating incredible results in short order. I personally learn by "doing" and not by merely watching, but the great thing was to see how it's done first; and then carry out the procedures on my own. So it's much better than just going it alone.
It is a worthwhile purchase… but as I mentioned earlier, the only downside is; it would cost a young fortune to get all of the videos you'd llike to have for the new features of Logic Pro X. And this one is of course for more advanced producers who will actually use the feature in their work and probably not worth the time and money for the "Garage Band" crowd who thinks Logic Pro X is just an update to Garage Band. It is NOT, and can be deeply complicated if you're just looking for shiny new toy to impress your friends and fool your enemies. But this video will help orient you to the workings of time and pitch flexing in a relaxed and repeatable format.
