Great authors inspire us. But what about the stories that inspire them? Recommended Reading, a magazine by Electric Literature, publishes one story a week, each chosen by today’s best authors or editors.

Whether it’s Mary Gaitskill recommending Saul Bellow, Conjunctions recommending Karen Russell, or brand new fiction from Etgar Keret, Recommended Reading delivers today’s best fiction, week by week. Every month, we release a story enhanced with a Single Sentence Animation: a short film inspired by the author’s favorite sentence.

By supporting Recommended Reading, you’re supporting a diverse community of writers and independent publishers worldwide. All revenues from the app directly support Electric Literature, an independent publisher working to ensure literary fiction remains a vibrant part of popular culture.

Recommended Reading is published every Wednesday. The app is a $0.99 download that includes one issue. After that, auto-renewing subscriptions are $1.99 for a month or $19.99 for a year. Subscriptions come with a one-month free trial.

When you become a subscriber, you can download any issue published while your subscription is active. If your subscription lapses, you will still be able to read the issues published while you were an active subscriber. To read issues before your subscription began, you must pay for them individually at $0.99 per issue. Tap the “Restore” button to make previously purchased issues available on your iPhone, iPod or iPad. Once you have bought a subscription, you can manage your subscriptions and turn off auto-renew in your Account Settings.
