Description

Play backgammon opening moves and replies optimally at key match scores!

A complete reference of the standard opening moves in backgammon and the best replies at key match scores for all dice rolls.

The optimum opening moves and replies are affected by the match score. Play the first two moves optimally at the four main match score types: Normal scores, Gammon Go, Gammon Save, and Double Match Point.

All the moves are cross-referenced, linking the exceptions by match score type.

Flag the moves you need to learn to create study lists by match score type. Add new moves to the study lists and remove them after you learn them.

View over 3,000 rollouts that provide the most accurate determination of the equity of each opening move or reply.

In-app purchase: Get the Premium Content that organizes the differences in the moves due to the match score type and highlights many of the unusual and counterintuitive moves.

What’s New

Version 1.0.3

Fixed a bug that allowed the upgrade (or restore) option to purchase (or restore) the Premium Content to be tapped multiple times while an App Store transaction was in progress. (This would result in a false error message displayed, even though there was no error.)

A Great Reference and Study Tool

I’m working to become a serious backgammon player, including learning the best opening moves and replies. There are several books on this topic, but, with this app, I now have a great reference and learning tool.

This app handles not just the general case for matches but also special scores, such as DMP, at which many of the moves should be played differently. I can create study lists to help me remember these score-based exceptions. I can easily add moves to the lists and delete the moves after I learn them.

I found the app super easy to use. The opening moves are organized by dice roll, and tapping on a move leads to the replies for all dice rolls. For any move, buttons appear if there are better ways to play a move at other score types. It’s easy to display the rollout for any position.

The Premium Content is very useful. It organizes the thousands of moves into what are called Patterns in the app. It’s helping me to remember which moves are always played the same way, regardless of score type, and those that should be played differently. I’m learning a lot and have already found many surprising moves.

I highly recommend this app.
