App Description

Welcome to Fractions on Parade. Fractions on Parade creates a virtual instructional environment where students investigate number lines to develop the understanding of fractions. Students are guided through visual images and animations to represent and to locate fractions on number lines. The educational objective for this app is to provide instruction and independent practice that are aligned to the common core standards for mathematics: develop understanding of fractions as numbers.

This app presents a lesson and quiz on fractions at the third grade level. A number line is used to present and illustrate fraction concepts. This instructional program is aligned to the Common Core Standards for Grade 3 Mathematics.

While using Fractions on Parade students will use number lines to develop the understanding of fractions. The instructional objectives for this app is to provide a lesson that is aligned to the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics Develop understanding of fractions as numbers.

Understand a fraction 1/b as the quantity formed by 1 part when a whole is partitioned into b equal part; understand a fraction a/b as the quantity formed by a parts of size 1/b.
Understand a fraction as a number on the number line; represent fractions on a number line diagram.

• Represent a fraction 1/b on a number line diagram by defining the interval from 0 to 1 as the whole and partitioning it into b equal parts. Recognize that each part has size 1/b and that the endpoint of the part based at 0 locates the number 1/b on the number line.

• Represent a fraction a/b on a number line diagram by marking off a lengths 1/b from 0. Recognize that the resulting interval has size a/b and that it's endpoint locates the number a/b on the number line.
