Description

Use your Apple trackpad to middle click.

Choose from four trackpad gestures: click with three fingers, tap with three fingers, tap with four fingers, and Force Touch with one finger.

Or, hold the function key (fn) and left click with any mouse input device to perform a middle click.

Open links in new tabs, close tabs more easily by middle clicking on them, and easily paste text in the Terminal.

Try it out for free with an unlimited trial. Purchase within the app to close the trial window.

Note that MiddleTouch requires accessibility privileges to function.

What’s New

Version 1.8.3

Now you can hide the trial window for a while.
Fixed some slight unresponsiveness when changing the middle click selection.
Now unchecking the app in the accessibility/privacy section System Settings while the app is running will not lock up your system.

Works as intended!

Great functionality that's unfortunately missing from macOS natively. Only complaint is I wish you could enable 3 finger tap AND click, don't know why you're limited to only choosing one or the other.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for the feedback! The app is purposefully really simple. If you're up for using the Terminal, you can configure both the three finger click & three finger tap gestures by executing the following Terminal commands and restarting the app:

defaults write com.knollsoft.MiddleTouch trackpadThreeClick -bool true;
defaults write com.knollsoft.MiddleTouch trackpadThreeTap -bool true;

Works great!

Works exactly as advertised. Drastically improved my workflow for node graphs

This is not free

It costs you screen real estate while using the trial version.

I actually can't afford that.

Updated: Kind and fair response from the developer. When the modified version makes it to the store, I'll be able to give it a fair trial (I really do need all the screen real-estate exposed to do that!)

I have a complicated use case. Fair's fair: if that case works, a purchase may be in order!

Developer Response ,

Thanks for the feedback. I've modified the app to allow you to hide the purchase window for a time period while you try it out, and it is in the latest version. In the purchase window, click on the info button and there is now a button for hiding the purchase window.

As for it not being free: the reason I've structured the purchase as an in-app-purchase instead of an up front cost is so that you can try the app before buying it. Not all apps respond the same way with a middle click, and it makes a lot more sense to be able to know whether or not everything works the way you want before purchasing. It would have been far less work to just have an up front cost rather than the in-app-purchase, but I really believe that's the better experience, provided the Mac App Store has no built-in way to do trials.
