粤语，又称为广东话、广府话、白话，是一种声调语言，属汉藏语系汉语族汉语方言 。在中国南方的广东中西部、广西中南部及香港、澳门和东南亚的部分国家或地区，以及海外华人社区中广泛使用。
粤语是南方方言里面保留中古汉语成分较多的一种，其中最突出的特色就是它较为完整地保留了中古汉语普遍存在的入声 ，其声母、韵母、声调与古汉语标准韵书《切韵》《广韵》有着良好对应关系。 。
粤语主要分布在中国华南的广东省、广西壮族自治区、海南省、香港特别行政区、澳门特别行政区以及海外华人社区如澳大利亚、新加坡、北美地区、东南亚等国家处广泛流行。在全球使用粤语人数甚多，其中在广东省使用粤语的人口大约有4000万， 加上广西粤语使用人数大约为2500万、香港700万、澳门55万、泰国500万、新加坡和马来西亚500万、美国和加拿大200万，全球将近有1.2亿人口使用粤语。
