PECHIN SUPERFOODS MARKET

A Village of Savings Under One Roof!

The year was 1947 when it began from a childhood dream…

In the basement of a small family home nestled atop “Pechin Hill”, Sullivan, “Sully” D’Amico set out to provide his neighbors with home delivery of fresh cut meats and eggs. Passionately mindful of the value of a penny, Sully’s prices were a clear indication that he intended to realize his childhood dream. Sully had grown up and survived through the most formidable years in our nations history. Beginning in 1929 with the crash of the Stock Market until 1941 with America’s entry into World War II, the Great Depression affected the entire country. Sully concerned himself most with the devastation suffered by his neighbors and family, and so it was during those years, as a young boy, that Sully dreamt of a day when every man could hold his head high and cast off the humility of those trying times. Never far from his thoughts was the despair caused by such poverty. Sully would often say “A man can’t go to work if he has no dignity, and a man can’t have dignity if he is hungry and unable to feed his family. With the help and support to his family, friends and employees that small basement operation evolved into a large grocery store and eventually became known across the country and around the world as “Pechin Shopping Village”, where customers could purchase their groceries, clothes, shoes, sporting goods etc., for a fraction of the cost they would pay elsewhere. Shopping at Pechin often meant a visit to the Snack Bar, which had become famous for its low priced cup of coffee and hamburgers. Due to customer demand, the Snack Bar was moved across the parking lot to a larger space and became the “Pechin Cafeteria. Today, in an every changing economy, while reaming true to the tradition and philosophy, Pechin Super Foods Market operates as a staple of the community by a new generation of family and friends. The passing of “Sully” in February 2005 left his family with many questions, not the least of which was, “How do we honor such an inspired man?” Over the years Sully’s love of fire trucks became well know as he amassed a collection well into the hundreds. So it is with great pride and in loving memory of “Sully” that the Pechin Firehouse Restaurant and Catering Company was opened.
