As you can imagine, being a gamer I have other nerdy persuits like programming.  Before you even ask, no, I am not some stereotypical cokebottle frame toting teen boy from a ninties after-school movie.  In fact, I would like to think that I am well adjusted adult that just has a tendency to enjoy things that flash on a screen.  All of that said, when you work as a software developer for a living it becomes a bit more difficult to break through that stigma. To make a long story short, when I was in my more formative years as a budding nerdling, I first dabbled in the dark magic of programming using a language that was lovingly referred to as BASIC.

Otherwise known by its much longer name, Beginner's All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code, many of this generation's game developers cut their development teeth on this groundbreaking language.  Though it somewhat lives on in Microsoft's Visual Basic, at least in a spiritual sense, the programming language has since been deprecated and discarded by most as the decades have rolled along.

Just when you though it was safe to close the book on BASIC for good, it finds new life on iOS.  Revived by developer miSoft, their new release Basic! will help instruct a whole new generation of nerds about how to bring their imagination to life on a computer screen... or iPhone at least!

Containing a fully featured help section and sample applications to get you on your way, trying this app could be the first step towards broadening your digital horizons.  If nothing else, this is a chance for us veterans to take a trip down memory lane and remind ourselves why we are so thankful for advancements in development technology.
