Five of the Most Recommended Apps This Week: September 9-13, 2013

Posted by Chris Kirby on September 17th, 2013

Ready to get a little social? Powerslyde is here to help you in your quest. Just take a look at these five top recommended apps this week:

Instagram
Ban.jo
Appgrooves
Kik Messsenger
AroundMe

Remember when it was just Facebook and Twitter? No, me either. Anyway, if you don't know what Instagram is, I'm amazed you're reading this article. As for Ban.jo and AroundMe, I'll forgive you for not knowing about these social networks that incorporate happenings, events, and locations nearby a-la Yelp or FourSquare.

An interesting inclusion this week is AppGrooves which, like Powerslyde, recommends other apps to its users. And then there's Kik Messenger, which claims to be the fastest messaging app out there. Is it? I don't know, as there's a glut of messaging apps out there, including Apple's own iMessage.

Ok...deep breath...do you feel properly socialized now? Good. Join us next week for another installment of the ongoing app popularity saga. Thanks to Powerslyde, the app that leverages your friends' app recommendations, for this week's list. What apps do you recommend? Drop us a comment below, or send us a message on Facebook or Twitter. Five of the Most Recommended Apps This Week: September 2 - 6, 2013

In honor of this week's inevitable new iPhone announcement, five of the top recommended apps are best described as 'App Classics.' Take a look:

Facebook
Temple Run
Shazam
Twitter
YouTube

Ah, the oldies but goodies! Hard to believe there was a time, not so long ago, when Facebook and Twitter weren't baked into iOS. Still, refreshes to these social networks' apps have made them must-haves for every iPhone and iPad user. And while a sequel and numerous copycats have followed in its footsteps, sometimes nothing beats the original Temple Run for pure, unadulterated endless-running goodness.

Google did a great thing and recently brought a major update to its YouTube app, breathing new life into one of its line of classic apps. And as for Shazam, does anyone else remember when this technology seemed like magic? Strange how quickly an app becomes old hat. For those wanting to know who's performing a song, however, it's still a must-own.

So all you young whippersnapper apps, take heed! You could learn a thing or two from these classics. Thanks to Powerslyde, the app that leverages your friends' app recommendations, for this week's list. What apps do you recommend? Drop us a comment below, or send us a message on Facebook or Twitter. Five of the Most Recommended Apps This Week: August 26-30, 2013

This week, our top Powerslyde recommendations are all about games. So why waste any more time? Let's get to the list:

Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter Pro
Office Jerk
CSR Racing
Robbery Bob
MotoHeroz

Some obscure games populating the list this week, for sure. However, Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter Pro got a solid four-star review from our own Jennifer Allen, who said, "Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter is a hunting sim with brains, but it could do with a smoother learning curve. Persevere and it's fantastically satisfying." Allen also gave a three-star review to CSR Racing, mentioning a tendency towards monetization in the game that got in the way of gameplay.

As for the remainder of our list, Office Jerk is a strange Paper Toss-type game that has players hurling unusual objects at an annoying co-worker, Robbery Bob is an overhead-view stealth game, and MotoHeroz is a Trials HD clone that got a great review from Carter Dotson.

So let this be a lesson to you, loyal reader: a game's obscurity does not mar its playability. Keep that in mind as you recommend apps and games to others. And thanks to Powerslyde, the app that recommends apps, for this week's list. What apps do you recommend? Drop us a comment below, or send us a message on Facebook or Twitter. See you next week!

Five Of The Most Recommended Apps This Week: July 22-26, 2013

Each and every week, we take a look at the top twenty apps as recommended on Powerslyde. Once installed on your iOS device, Powerslyde detects the apps you have installed, then recommends apps you may like and may not be aware of. Think of it as a way to get App recommendations from somewhere other than the App Store itself.

This week, five of the most recommended apps are:

Amazing Alex
Flow Free
Ruzzle
Chasing Yello
Plumber Crack

Looks like casual games made a strong showing this week, with Rovio's Amazing Alex possibly returning due to interest in the two new Rovio Stars games that have recently hit the App Store: Ice Breaker and Tiny Thief. Ruzzle made an impression on reviewer Ruari O'Gallchoir, who says, "Ruzzle has several tricks up its sleeve to differentiate itself from it’s more established competitors." Two of the five are lesser-known games that follow fairly standard formulas: Chasing Yello is an endless runner, and Flow Free is a color-matching game. As for Plumber Crack, we'll leave that one up to your imagination. If you're wondering if someone could build a game around that particular anatomical gem, it seems like they can and did.
