Fight Night Champion Rings the Bell on iOS

Posted by Blake Grundman on February 7th, 2011

Boxing is an amazing sport.  Say what you will about grown men duking it out until their faces look like raw hamburger meat, but there is truly a sweet science and amazing amount of intellect that goes into performing at the sport's highest levels.  Sure, Mike Tyson may not look like a card carrying MENSA member, but his procedural intelligence inside of the ring was only undercut by his tenacity to destroy the competition.  However, the issue has always existed that there was no way to fight as the legendary figures of boxing on the iOS... until NOW!

Electronic Arts has just announced that they will be bringing the next iteration in their award winning Fight Night series, to the iOS.  Though details are a bit hard to come by at this moment, they did let a few details slip:

FEEL LIKE YOU’RE IN THE RING
With fluid touch controls, every tap, flick and gesture keeps your boxer ducking, weaving, jabbing, and moving around the ring  ̶  just like you were there yourself. With full audio commentary from Joe Tessitore.

FRIENDS BECOME FOES Measure your skills against your friends in a Multiplayer fight via local Wifi or Bluetooth. Feel the rush of adrenaline as you lay your friend’s boxer out, or the agony of a right hook to your boxer’s jaw. Make it personal.

Aside from the feeling of landing yourself in the heart of the ring, the outstanding roster of boxing legends will aid in further enforcing the authenticity.  Featuring the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Manny Pacquiao, and the aforementioned Mike Tyson, you will even get the chance to step into the ring as the greatest of all time: Mohammad Ali!

It is hard not to get excited about a game like this, especially given how under represented the sport is in the App Store.  Check out some of the screenshots below and see if you feel the same way!

Gameloft Debuts Upcoming Lineup

Posted by Blake Grundman on November 29th, 2010

With "Black Friday" well in the past, this is that magical time of year when developers start looking towards the upcoming rush of new holiday iOS device purchasers and ready themselves with some of their premier releases.  Gameloft is no exception to rule, letting slip three of their exciting new titles, which include a couple of sequels and one newly premiering franchise.  So without further ado, lets dig into the details, shall we?

NOVA 2

Acting as a direct sequel to last year's Near Orbital Vanguard Alliance, or NOVA for short, NOVA 2 takes place six years after the original's events.  Humankind is now in the midst of an extreme civil war, which as you can imagine leads to the introduction of interesting new alliances being made and several new factions emerging.  They have released several new pieces of concept art that can be seen in the gallery below.  These can help give players a glimpse at what they can expect to see when the game releases at some point in December.

Shadow Guardian

Obviously following in the footstep of the tremendously successful PlayStation 3 release Uncharted, Shadow Guardian places players directly into a treasure hunt of the historical variety, looking for a centuries old relic that has been lost for over one thousand years.  Players will be running, jumping, shooting and exploring their way through a wide variety of different stages, all of which look absolutely stunning in the screen shots and trailer that you can see below.  You can look forward to this bad boy landing in the App Store "very soon."

Asphalt 6: Adrenaline

What would a holiday season be without a trip back to the well of racing games on iOS?  Marking their sixth (yes, that was not a typo) entry in the Asphalt series, Gameloft has gone out and licensed some of the biggest names in automobiles, to help better flesh out their vehicle roster.  More information on that lineup should be coming very soon, but in the meantime, why not check out the teaser trailer and screen shots in the gallery?  This should be burning rubber soon, with a release date set for sometime in December.

Hogwarts Lands on iOS

Posted by Blake Grundman on November 11th, 2010

Unless you have been living in a bunker for the last decade, it would be impossible to not know of a rapscallion of a wizard by the name of Harry Potter.  After first launching an invasion via the printed work, J.K. Rowling's creation has managed to find its way to both the silver-screen and the small screen via a successful series of films and video games, respectively.  But that wasn't enough for the citizens of Hogwarts, as the brains over at Traveler's Tales decided to give the brand one more successful reboot, taking the route of the other successful Lego branded games such as the popular LucasArts Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises.

The game landed on consoles at the end of June, but what does this have to do with iOS, you say?  Today, a little birdy over at Warner Bros. let slip of an upcoming port of the game to all current iOS based devices.  This lines up perfectly with next week's launch of the first part of the "Deathly Hallows" conclusion to the Harry Potter story.  Here is what you can look forward to in the iOS iterations:

"LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 will bring the world of LEGO Harry Potter to life on the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, giving gamers the power to play with LEGO characters and models in a brand new way.  Based on the first four Harry Potter books and movies, LEGO Harry Potter builds on the foundations of previous LEGO videogames by offering a mix of fun, accessible gameplay and light-hearted humour – which appeals to all ages. Players will explore and feel as though they are ‘at Hogwarts’"

We could not be more thrilled at this news.  Seeing as how the game clocks in at a thirty dollar or more pricetag on consoles and PSP/Nintendo DS, this could very well be the last nail in the proverbial coffin of the aforementioned versions.  So pull up a broom, because you are going to be in for one heck of a ride! According to our source, the price is still yet to be decided, and the release date is "soon."

New Screenshots of Tweetie 2.0 for iPhone

Posted by Arron Hirst on September 30th, 2009

I just received these on Twitter a few minutes ago, from Jonah Grant. He assures me he has had confirmation from Loren himself that screenshots of the new upcoming app are okay to be leaked, due to the cat already being out of the bag. So, here goes nothing! ..

All in all there are 11 shots in this batch, a few of which depict more of what we can expect from the update. Most noticeably I think, is the fact that Tweetie's 'Nearby' feature is now in fact an interactive map of nearby users. From the shot we can tell that the UI is not too dissimilar to Loopt, and you can switch from 'Map' to 'List' view.

You'll also see they depict a new way to refresh your timeline. From the shots it suggests that you pull a 'panel' down from the top of Tweetie 2, and release to refresh - Pretty neat implementation I have to say. Now whether or not Tweetie will have a 'Automatic' refresh option is yet to be seen, but I know you guys sure want it, looking at my replies tab on Twitter.

Update: Tweet update... "Automatic" refresh will be included.

Update 2: This morning I asked Loren of behalf of all of you, that burning question; Would Tweetie 2 bring with it Push Notifications? Below is his response via a few DMs:

"Not in 2.0. It's impossible to pull off reliably on the scale of users Tweetie has. I recommend Boxcar for now. (but there is some exciting stuff coming down the pipe ;)"

I've attached the rest of the shots after the break for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!
