Capture Card No Longer Needed - iOS Owners Can Record Using QuickTime in OS X Yosemite

Posted by Ellis Spice on October 21st, 2014

Pocket Gamer has noticed that, hidden within OS X Yosemite, the latest update to the Mac operating system that arrived last week, is the ability to capture footage straight from a Lightning cable connected iOS device.

Intended for developers but freely available to all, footage captured this way comes in the full Retina resolution of the device, with no jag or frame rate drops even on bigger 3D games. Whilst it might not give users the editing or streaming options they might be able to get from other software and hardware, it does at least makes the process for getting footage for Let's Plays and the like more open and a heck of a lot easier.

Flurry Reports 242 Million iOS and Android App Downloads on Christmas Day

Posted by Greg Dawson on December 28th, 2011

Historically, Christmas is one of the biggest days of the year for entry of new mobile devices and the apps that make them more productive and entertaining. This year is no different with mobile analytics company Flurry reporting record-breaking mobile growth for both Apple and Google. Apple is on pace to exceed a staggering 10 billion downloads. This would double the overall downloads earned across 2008, 2009 and 2010. With multiple Android operating systems available with multiple carriers, it's no surprise that the Android Market also set records, more than tripling its life-to-date downloads of 3 billion, reached in May 2011, to now over 10 billion cumulative downloads reached this December.

With an average of 1.5 million mobile activations from December 1 to December 20, Christmas day hit 6.8 million, a 353 percent increase. And with all of those new devices there was a surge of app downloads with an increase from 108 million to 242 million, or 125 percent. That's a lot of mobile presents and rightly so as they're no longer a way to only make calls, but to access social sites, video, music, games and much more. The full report is available here.

Elgato has announced that the 1.1 update to its EyeTV app now provides iPad compatibility for streaming TV wherever you are.

Now, before you get too excited, the EyeTV app does need Elgato's EyeTV software and tuner as well as a Mac or PC in order to stream TV but. if you fulfill these requirements, today is a good day for you. An Elgato package isn't that expensive either, with products starting around the $150 mark and taking advantage of the free digital video signals it catches.

Elgato is renowned for its EyeTV software that turns your computer into a digital TV and allows for recording live shows as well as scheduling using a small tuner that connect via USB. The EyeTV app for iPhone and now iPad allows users to view all of their recorded content as well as watch TV live on their device, taking advantage of the in-built TV guide. The app even allows you to set recordings on your home computer remotely.
