Philips Announces a New Web-Connected Switch and Hue "Lux" Lightbulb for its Hue Line

Posted by Stephen Hall on April 1st, 2014

Philips' hue lighting collection is growing, with the addition of two new upcoming members of the family: the tap switch, which lets you control connected lights wirelessly, and the "lux," which is a white-only version of the 16 million-color original Hue bulb. Hue is known for its connectivity with iOS devices, allowing you to control room lighting from the comfort of your couch.

The tap switch, which will be available later this year for $60, impressively requires no external power source. The device powers itself with the kinetic energy of tapping its buttons. The "lux" bulb, which will retail for $40 per bulb (or come bundled with 2 bulbs plus a hue base for $100), is a very bright white coming in at $20 less than its colored brother.

Both of these new products will be available in Europe and North America sometime this Fall.
