Newscorp's The Daily Shutting Down 12/15 - Removed from the App Store
MacRumors reports that The Daily is shutting down. What was supposed to be the publication that heralded the move of print periodicals to digital publication, The Daily, has been removed from the App Store and will be shutdown completely on the 15th. Newscorp released this app and staffed it up to an amazing level. With cuts not too long ago, the writing was on the wall that there was trouble. In a reorganization announcement today, Newscorp announced the end of The Daily.
It's not too surprising, really. It never really caught on. Perhaps it was before it's time, perhaps the writing just never caught on with readers. While this seems like a worrisome sign for digital publishers in general, it may just as likely be a sign that in this instance Newscorp was the real problem.
Mr. Murdoch said: "From its launch, The Daily was a bold experiment in digital publishing and an amazing vehicle for innovation. Unfortunately, our experience was that we could not find a large enough audience quickly enough to convince us the business model was sustainable in the long-term.
