Square Enix Has Just Released Tomb Raider II on an Unsuspecting App Store

Pretty much out of nowhere, Square Enix has just sort of gone and dropped Tomb Raider II onto the App Store.

The (debatably) superior sequel wowed plenty of gamers when it first came out by adding more of just about everything. Plus it's got that training course at Lara's mansion with the old butler who passes gas like clockwork - I'm not kidding, he totally does. Well, I think it's a perk, anyway.

Flatulence aside, the second game takes Lara to all sorts of new locations like Tibet and Italy. More locations also means more types of enemies (yetis and tigers and... wait, yetis??), as well as some new weapons to dispatch them with. Oh, and vehicles. That was sort of a big deal at the time. But perhaps the addition that will interest you most is the new list of achievements.

You can download Tomb Raider II off the App Store now for $1.99.

Lara Croft: Reflections - New Tomb Raider Card Battler Soft Launched on the New Zealand App Store

Posted by Rob Rich on December 23rd, 2013

Remember how Square Enix released a port of the original Tomb Raider last week and didn't bother to tell anyone about it? Well they've done it again. This time it's Lara Croft: Reflections that's been sneaking around the NZ App Store with little to no attention.

However, Reflections is a fairly big departure for Ms. Croft so they probably wanted to test the waters first. Rather than a 3D adventure game, it's a free-to-play card battler that lets players collect and evolve weapons, complete quests, take on bosses, yoink artifacts from other players, and otherwise duke it out with cards. The game has been soft-launched (not my favorite trend but whatever) in the New Zealand App Store and is available now for the curious. For the rest of us, we'll just have to wait until the testing is over and it officially releases in the States sometime during the first quarter of 2014.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light Review

By Chris Hall on December 21st, 2010
It's not a sexed up Tomb Raider game from the 90's, but Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is a fantastic dual stick shooter that will make any fan happy.

Lara Croft. Coming To An iOS Device Near You

Posted by Chris Hall on December 16th, 2010

Since the very first Tomb Raider game came out so many years ago, Lara Croft has been an international sex symbol. Sure, she's just pixels and audio bits, but she's spawned a slew of Lara Croft models that have graced various video game conferences, paved the way for video game heroines to be sex symbols (or just sex, depending on how many times you played DOE: Extreme Beach Volleyball), and became one of the most popular video game move adaptions ever (i.e. Ewe Boll did not direct it). It was really only a matter of time until Lara Croft made her way onto the App Store, but the new game being released by Square Enix wasn't quite what I was expecting.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is a top down, dual stick shooter that has you playing as both Lara and her new sidekick, Totec. The game looks as pretty as you'd expect a big budget Lara Croft game to look, but this title is definitely focusing more on the action than Lara Croft's sex symbol status.

Like the rest of the series, the game will take you through an exhaustive adventure through jungle/supernatural terrains and contains more action and puzzle solving than you can throw a stick at. The real kicker though is the inclusion of co-op multiplayer, which allows you and a friend to play simultaneously as Lara and Totec via Bluetooth or WiFi. If that doesn't sound like the best possible way to pass the time on a plane flight, I don't know what does.

If the iOS version of Guardian of Light is as good as the X-Box Live Arcade and Playstation Network versions (and I suspect it will), it will surely be one of the best action games in the App Store. After garnering almost universal praise by publications like IGN, 1UP, and Game Informer, fans of the series should be extremely excited for this one to launch (it should be available tomorrow, 12/16).
