Chatisfacation - Think Random FaceTime, But Spicy

Posted by Chris Hall on August 4th, 2010
iPhone App - Designed for iPhone, compatible with iPad

Some people have the insatiable urge to pick up and video chat with a complete stranger. If you are one of these people, the loss of iChatr in the App Store was certainly a big blow to your ego. Fortunately, Dirty Birds Interactive has created a new app that will put random people on your screen, but this time it may be ok with Apple.

Chatisfication works like a large chat room, pairing you up with different people that have the same "need" for a FaceTime conversation. Unfortunately, due to the artwork for the app, I think the needs will become more and more conspicuous as the app gets popular (if it ever gets popular in the first place, the artwork is particularly bad).

"No matter what you are looking for, Chatisfaction has it. If you are looking for a chat with someone in your local area, someone with similar interests, or just testing out your new video enabled iPhone, Chatisfaction provides the gateway for you."

Now go. Have fun talking to strangers... just don't be too surprised if someone shows you something you don't want to see.

iChatr (Chat Roulette for the iPhone 4) Shockingly Removed From the App Store

Posted by Jeff Scott on July 17th, 2010

In the most shocking app story every, iChatr, the Chat Roulette clone for the iPhone 4 that we told you about last week has been removed from the App Store due to reports of some people exposing themselves! Shocking! Unheard of! What has this world come to?

Ok, all sarcasm aside. Um, er, watching people, particularly men, do certain things to themselves is the main reason people use Chat Roulette. As a matter of fact, I think it's the only reason. The revelation that people are doing the exact same thing in iChatr is no revelation at all. It's completely anonymous and that makes people think that they can do anything they want.

SKJM, developers of iChatr had very little to say on the subject -- "The iChatr application has currently been removed from the App Store due to reports of a number of users exposing themselves during the random video chat sessions. We are currently discussing possible solutions to the problem with Apple." Yeah, good luck with getting Apple to OK it again.

That the nudity police at Apple have pulled this app is also no surprise at all. I don't expect that we'll see it back in the store. And for those multitudes of others that are working on similar apps, you might as well stop now unless you have some wicked automatic genital recognition technology built in.

Chatroulette for the iPhone is Here: iChatr

Posted by Jeff Scott on July 10th, 2010

When the iPhone 4 front-facing camera was announced, one of the most common snarky comments was that finally we could have a mobile Chatroulette. If you aren't familiar with Chatroulette, it's basically random video chat with strangers. You can read more at the Wikipedia Chatroulette entry. I won't link you directly to the Chatroulette site since, well, ahem, you might see something you don't want to see.

Grab iChatr now, if you want to try it out. It's a free app currently. I don't expect it to last in the App Store for very long. We'll see what the response from Apple is once the press starts slamming the app. But be cautioned, if iChatr becomes anything like Chatroulette -- about 1/3 of what you will see is way less than appropriate -- that's why this app is rated 17+!

In a quick test this afternoon, 3 in 10 random chats were of male genitalia. Yup, Chatroulette mobile is here all right.
