How to get started with Prisma

Posted by Nicholas Tylwalk on July 25th, 2016

If there's one thing people like to do more than taking pictures with their smartphones, it's tinkering with those photos in some way. Numerous apps have sprung up over the last several years that allow you to use filters and special effects to transform your pictures, and it doesn't seem like the appetite for those tricks has been satisfied for all smartphone users just yet.

As evidence, consider the rise of Prisma. Originally released in June, the app has been steadily climbing the App Store charts since then, and is on the verge of breaking into the top 10 as of the time of this post. Prisma's calling card is turning regular photos into pseudo works of art, complete with effects that make it appear your images were painted.

How to evolve Eevee in Pokemon GO

Posted by Nick Tylwalk on July 22nd, 2016

By now, almost everyone should be hip to how to evolve Pokemon in Pokemon GO (and if not, there's a guide for that). Just gather enough candy of the appropriate type, feed them all to the Pokemon, and evolution happens. It's a miracle that would astound Darwin.

For every rule, though, an exception lurks in the shadows. And when it comes to Pokemon evolution, that exception has a name: Eevee.

How to unlock more characters in Disney Emoji Blitz

Posted by Nick Tylwalk on July 21st, 2016

One of the big charms of Disney Emoji Blitz is seeing a wide variety of beloved Disney and Pixar characters transformed into smiling emojis. Even someone like the sneaky Randall from Monsters Inc., who probably never cracked a smile on film, is happy as can be until your time is running out.

But while seeing them on the playing field is one thing, the real draw is using your favorite as the avatar representing you. When you first start playing Disney Emoji Blitz, you'll have just a single Disney character at your disposal. Playing through all of the tutorials will grant you a second.

How can you unlock more of them? That's the question we're here to answer for you.

Pokemon GO: How to hatch Pokemon Eggs without walking

Posted by Nick Tylwalk on July 20th, 2016

Playing Pokemon GO without walking is sort of defeating the purpose. Nintendo wanted Niantic to help it create a game that would get people up and moving about, and darned if that isn't exactly what they got.

Nowhere is that more true than when it comes to hatching Pokemon Eggs. As we've told you previously, there are three kinds of eggs, each of which takes a different amount of walking to hatch. Or maybe we should say "walking" in quotes, because despite the developers' best intentions, there are ways around doing 10 km on the shoe leather express.

The one Pokemon GO trick you need to know to level up faster

Posted by Nick Tylwalk on July 18th, 2016

There's no real rush to get ahead in Pokemon GO. Even if it starts to fade a little after its ludicrously fantastic launch, there are millions of people who will be just getting into the game over the weeks to come. Maybe you're one of them -- after all, the game just launched in Canada, and Japan is still waiting for it.

But while others may proceed at a leisurely pace to catch 'em all, let's assume that's not for you. If the thought of having other teams control the Gym near your house makes your blood boil, or you simply have dreams of becoming the very best (like no one ever was), you're going to need to level up faster.

How to play Pokemon GO without killing your battery

Posted by Nick Tylwalk on July 13th, 2016

Just like Benjamin Franklin said the only two certainties in life were death and taxes, there are two equally unavoidable truths about Pokemon GO. The first is that it's a phenomenon on a scale which mobile gaming has yet to see, and the second is that it's an absolute terror for the battery life of your iPhone or iPad.

We're talking about play sessions that can be measured in minutes, not hours, if you attempt to go out for a Pokemon-catching stroll without your battery indicator at 100 percent. And even fully charged, Pokemon GO eats up juice at a dizzying rate.

How to evolve Pokemon in Pokemon GO

Posted by Nick Tylwalk on July 12th, 2016

Unless you're a complete newcomer to the world of Pokemon, you already know that one of the pleasures of playing any game from the franchise is to evolve your pocket monsters into more powerful forms. It's been one of the core concepts of the IP from the start, and it's a part of Pokemon GO as well.

That said, it's also one of the many aspects of the game that isn't explained to new players at all. Unless you already know where to look or simply stumble into the best way to evolve Pokemon, there's nothing leading you in the right direction.

How to get Pokemon to come to you in Pokemon GO

Posted by Nick Tylwalk on July 12th, 2016

If one of the goals that went into the making of Pokemon GO was for Niantic and Nintendo to get more people to go outside and be more active -- and it certainly seems like it was -- them mission accomplished. Go just about anywhere that the smash mobile sensation has been officially rolled out (apologies again to our Canadian friends) and you'll find people out and about trying to add to their collections.

That's great to see, but there are times when it's simply not feasible to track Pokemon down where they live. All of us have work, school, or some other kind of obligation that keeps us tethered to a single spot for hours at a time. Wouldn't it be great if you could get Pokemon to come to you?

How to get more Pokeballs in Pokemon GO

Pokemon GO has taken the mobile gaming world by storm, but its success has come despite, and definitely not because of, its almost complete lack of tutorials.

Sites like this one should be grateful though, as the game's bare bones approach to explaining the basics has allowed us to help pick up the slack. In this case, we're going to discuss how to ensure you never run out of that most essential of supplies, the Pokeball.

How to level up in Pokémon GO

Now that it seems to be working a little more often for more players,Pokémon GO is turning out to be a lot of fun. Who wouldn't want to be able to catch Pokémon out in real world environments, after all?

The one big obstacle that stands in your way is how little you're told before you set off into the world to try catching those irresistible pocket monsters. A mysterious professor simply tells you he wants help with his research, gives you somePokéballsand an incubator and is like, "Okay, good luck!"

How to build a championship team in NBA LIVE Mobile

Posted by Nick Tylwalk on July 8th, 2016

When the calendar flips to July, it can only mean one thing: It's time for some basketball!

Okay, not normally, we'll admit. But thanks to EA waiting until the real NBA season was over to drop NBA LIVE Mobile on us, that's what we'll be doing on our phones and tablets for the rest of the summer. The game zoomed right toward the top of the App Store upon its release, so it obviously isn't bothering too many mobile gamers to be playing hoops out of season.

Getting started with Pokémon GO: A Guide to the basics

Posted by Nick Tylwalk on July 7th, 2016

After all kinds of anticipation, Pokémon GO has finally been released on the U.S. and most markets around the world. The first true mobile game from Nintendo, it allows players to live out a fantasy we've all had at one time or another and makes it as close to being a Pokémon Trainer in real life as possible thanks to its augmented reality focus.

And admit, you've definitely wanted to be a Pokémon Trainer at some point in your life.

Is today Pokémon GO release day? How you can play now

Posted by Nick Tylwalk on July 6th, 2016

If you've been looking forward to the release of Pokémon GO, you probably woke up excited today to find the internet abuzz with word that the game is live. That euphoria also likely turned to crushing disappointment before too long, because if you live anywhere but Australia and New Zealand, Nintendo's first real mobile game is not out. Yet.

And because Nintendo and its partners at The Pokémon Company and Niantic are still being tight-lipped about how the roll-out of Pokémon GO is being handled, we don't even know for sure if the official North American launch will be sometime today, later this week or later this month. Still, where there's a will, there's a way, and you can indeed play Pokémon GO if you so desire.

How to find friends on live.ly

Posted by Nick Tylwalk on July 5th, 2016

When live.ly first released, it was about as bare bones as you could get. You could use the app to easily live stream video of yourself, which was the whole point, but you couldn't do much else with it.

The folks at musical.ly have updated the app several times since its launch, and while those updates haven't added a ton of functionality to live.ly, it's correct to say it does more than it did even a week ago and makes you feel like more of a part of a community of fellow streamers.

The latest of Topps' line of digital trading card apps -- which also includes apps for baseball, football (regular and American), Star Wars, and The Walking Dead -- it features all the stars of the UFC on a variety of virtual, collectible cards.
