Hey there, town-builders:
Want to know what we thought about the Ice Age team's adventures in environmental preservation? Check out our Ice Age Adventures Review!

While we may have to wait a few years before the next 'Ice Age' movie, Ice Age Adventures lets fans pass the time with Sid, Manny, and Diego on the go. The great thaw has caused the world to crack, leaving friends stranded and the community in disarray. Here are some tips for saving everybody and making the village as good as new. Who else is going to rescue Ray Romano?

The Meltdown

You’ll spend most of your time exploring the different islands for treasures and members of the village.

  • You’ll need to clear paths to get around. As your party expands, you’ll be able to clear more obstacles. Sid cuts trees, Manny tramples rocks, and Diego fights off enemy pirates. However, this also consumes your berry reserves faster.

  • Clearing paths gives you tons of shells - another currency for store. Finding clams, particularly golden clams, is also a great way to gain resources.

  • A few times a day you can enter the various caves on the islands. They provide everything from extremely valuable golden acorns to chances to rescue even more lost baby animals.

  • Rescuing a member of the herd typically involves playing a short mini-game like sledding downhill or solving a match-3 puzzle. Take them seriously though, because failure leads to a lengthy wait before the next chance to try again.

  • To unlock more parts of the map, you’ll occasionally have to gather items like vines and torches for friendly characters. Caves and shells are usually the best places to look. You’ll have to complete most of each island’s missions before moving onto the next one.

  • You can always go back to past islands to find things you may have missed or enter caves again for the chance to win more prizes.

Dungeon Gems- Tips, Tricks, and Strategies for Fighting Elements with the Elements

Thought evil dragons were just a myth? Well they’re back in Dungeon Gems. And even though the game will seem quite familiar to fans of Puzzles & Dragons, it still has intricacies of its own to master. So gather an elite team of elemental heroes to take down the monsters one dungeon at a time. Here’s how.

Fight Fire with Fire, or Water, or Wood…

  • Basic attacks are launched by matching elemental gems like a puzzle game. You don’t even need to match three, just one will suffice. However, longer combos create more powerful attacks. Some even create special gems that clear a single element from the board, including new ones that cycle in to replace the old, doling out a massive assault.

  • Each element has different strengths and weaknesses. Fire beats wood but is weak against water while light and dark both beat each other. Be sure to target enemies by touching them so attacks can have the most impact.

  • Some enemies have longer waiting periods between turns. Check the number next to them and use any extra turns you may have to deal more damage or heal yourself by linking heart gems.

  • Defeating enemies grants you action points. These can be used to activate special skills or link separate elements together for huge, multi-elemental attacks.

  • This is Why Modern Combat 5: Blackout Will be the Prettiest Modern Combat

Posted by Jennifer Allen on June 30th, 2014

New details have been revealed about Modern Combat 5: Blackout's graphical prowess.

The game is set to use a feature rarely seen on mobile titles. It's called Screen Space Ambient Occlusion (or SSAO for short) and is a rendering technique that results in more realistic shadows. What that means for us is that the game looks better and particularly impressive for an iOS title!

Check out the GIF below that highlights just what to expect.

The game is also set to include many other graphical enhancements such as:

    • Eye adaptation & Bloom - exposure adjusts in a more realistic manner when moving between light and dark areas
    • Soft particles – improved interactions of particles with surrounding geometry
    • Underwater distort and caustics – reproduces realistic water effects
    • Real-time character shadows – characters cast shadows on geometry in real time
    • Heat-haze – air distortion due to muzzle heating after shooting
    • Depth of Field – cinematic effect that makes the background appear out of focus so that certain characters or objects in the foreground step more into focus

Modern Combat 5: Blackout is set for release later this Summer.

Impressively titled, Captain America: The Winter Soldier - The Official Game, is currently on sale and will cost you a grand total of absolutely nothing.

We weren't entirely impressed by it upon first release in April, mostly because it's a little repetitive. Having said that, for free, what have you got to lose? If you're like me and a sucker for blockbuster movie tie-ins, you'll probably find something to enjoy here.

We're not entirely sure why it's on sale or for how long, so grab it quickly while you're thinking about it!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier - The Official Game is available from the App Store now.

E3 2014 - Gameloft Unveils Puzzle RPGs, Endless Racers, and a Swarm of Spider-Men

Posted by Rob Rich on June 17th, 2014

Gameloft has been busy (isn’t Gameloft always busy, though?) lately. Several upcoming titles were on display at the popular iOS developer’s booth last week, including the Totally 80s endless racer Asphalt Overdrive (a spin-off of the popular racing series), “web-runner” Spider-Man Unlimited, and puzzle RPG Dungeon Gems. Not a bad spread, really.

    Dungeon Gems

Dungeon Gems is all about building up a formidable fighting force, then clearing colored gems to activate their abilities and clear out dungeons full of enemies. Characters can be collected and upgraded, and tend to conform to one of five different elements (fire, earth, water, light, and dark).

What’s interesting about Dungeon Gems, aside from the fact that it looks pretty darn impressive when compared to similar titles on iOS, is that you don’t actually have to match gems to fight enemies. Simply tapping on a single gem will trigger an attack, and you may connect multiple colors in one go - so long as you have enough Action Points (special points that refill as you defeat enemies) available.

Dungeon Gems will be available on the App Store later this month.

    Spider-Man Unlimited

Ol’ web-head is also going to be putting in an appearance once Spider-Man Unlimited is released.

This self-proclaimed “web-runner” pits Spidey against The Sinister Six. Actually, it pits dozens of Spidey’s against dozens of villains from a bunch of different dimensions. Each of the 20+ Spider-Men will sport their own look and slightly different stats/abilities, and can be collected and fused CCG-style.

Spider-Man Unlimited isn’t due out until later this summer, but it’s definitely looking pretty good. And the supply of characters from alternate universes means we can expect lots of other characters to eventually pop-up.

    Asphalt Overdrive

Finally, there’s Asphalt Overdrive: a sort of spin-off of the Asphalt series that in no way is an official sequel so put down those torches and pitchforks!

Asphalt Overdrive is a lane-based endless racer that tasks you with going as far and as fast as you can while trying to outrun the police and avoid crashing into anything heavier than your own (licensed) car. It’s also super-80s, with lots of neon and bright colors, eerily familiar vehicles (Kit?), and a distinct Outrun sort of feel.

Asphalt Overdrive will be releasing later this summer.

Spider-Man Unlimited to Bring Web-Swinging Action to iOS!

Posted by Jessica Fisher on June 9th, 2014

Love endless runners and spandex-wearing superheroes? Then it's time to get excited about Gameloft's announcement that they will be developing Spider-Man Unlimited for smartphones and tablets.

Spidey fans will have the opportunity to collect a multitude of different spider-men: including Iron Spider-Man, Spider-Man Noir, and Ben Reilly Spider-Man as they fight classic villains like the Green Goblin, Vulture, and Electro.

Spider-Man Unlimited is scheduled to release for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch in early September.
