FREEday 3/9/12 - "FREE Time, Let it Happen"

Posted by Rob Rich on March 9th, 2012

This week's list isn't quite as robust as last week's, but that doesn't make it any less important. Or at least relevant. It's got something of a random assortment this time around, including strategy, puzzle, arcade and runner offerings. And, as always, they're totally and completely free. So without further stalling for time, let's kick this pig!

Plants War - If someone were to hear about an RTS/RPG that uses the term "horticultural warriors" and not find themselves instantly curious, I'd be worried about them. And that's exactly what this is billed as. Players get to fend off beast invasions using upgradable plant people. If nothing else, it's an awesome concept.

uPixel - It's hard not to get drawn in when playing one of those "rotate abstract shapes until they make an image" games. They're just so soothing. One with some nifty pixel art and the option to create custom images would certainly be awesome. It'd be even more awesome if it were free. Hah. See what I did there?

Castle Heroes - I recall spending far more time that was healthy playing Donkey Kong Jr. in my youth. Actually I did that with pretty much any game. Anyway, Castle Heroes reminds me a bit of the spin-off to the classic, only players are attempting to toss debris at enemies attempting to scale a wall as opposed to scaling said wall themselves. Okay so it's not exactly the same thing, but it's the same general idea. Only backwards. And free.

Future Runner - iOS users seem to like runners. Lots of people love pixelated retro looks. Combine the two and we have Future Runner. It's a simple game at its core with only a few moves, but it looks cool and doesn't cost anything. And there's the whole not having to pay for it thing.

Hexus! - Match 3 games are always a good time. Especially when they're combined with other things. I know there are more than a few match/RPG hybrids out there but as far as I'm aware there aren't many that incorporate city-building. Hence Hexus!.
