Castlevania Puzzle: Encore of the Night Announced for iPhone

Posted by Bonnie Eisenman on May 17th, 2010

Konami's dabbled in the App Store before, with made-for-iPhone releases from well-known franchises such as Dance Dance Revolution S and Metal Gear Solid Touch. Now they've announced another major game, this time from another fabled franchise...the Castlevania series.

The Castlevania games are typically platformers whose plots revolve around Dracula and the vampire-slaying Belmont family. The game announced for the iPhone, however, takes a slightly different turn. Titled Castlevania Puzzle: Encore of the Night, the upcoming game will be a puzzle-RPG in which you play Alucard, Dracula's son. You'll also be able to play as (or against!) characters from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. The screenshots make the game look somewhat similar to Puzzle Quest. So far we can tell that you'll have weapons and armor to equip and spells to cast. As for the battles themselves, they look like a hybrid of Bejeweled-style match-3 and falling-blocks (aka Tetris).

While this puzzle game looks like more of a spin-off than a regular series game, we're certainly intrigued. Release date and pricing info are still uncertain, but Konami rarely announces a game long before its actual release. Castlevania fans, stay vigilant—once Encore of the Night hits the App Store we'll be working on a review!
