It's pretty wild to think that the Plants vs. Zombies series has been around for six years already. To celebrate this mildly unconventional milestone, Popcap is giving players some free stuff in Plants vs. Zombies 2. Because they got the whole "birthday gifts" thing backwards. I blame the zombies.

Angry Birds, the unassuming (at the time) little physics game that later went on to become an empire, has turned five today. And after five years of a somewhat obscene amount of spin-offs and merchandising, and a reported 600+ billion birds being tossed at rickety structures, Rovio is celebrating with a new episode, titled Play the Next Level.

What makes Play the Next Level special is that each of the levels has been created by series fans. Rovio pulled the best of the best from the thousands of entries to give us all 30 all-new stages to enjoy.

They're also celebrating in the real world by hosting a party for a couple thousand local children, and will be giving all babies born in Finland on 12/11 a special edition baby Flock outfit. Because, you know, why not?

If you don't live in Finland you're out of luck with regards to the party and special edition jammies, but you can check out the new Play the Next Level "BirdDay" (ugh) episode right now.

Angry Birds Celebrates Second Birthday With New Levels

Posted by Jennifer Allen on December 12th, 2011

It's quite astonishing to think that two years has passed since the release of a little game about throwing birds at pigs. Yup, it's Angry Birds's second birthday!

[img id="angrybirdsbirthday-300x244.jpg"]The biggest gaming success story on the app store is celebrating such exciting times with the release of 15 brand new levels full of birthday cakes and celebratory balloons. Very appropriate given developers, Rovio's history of regularly updating the title.

Included within this update is the new Orange Bird that propels any object it touches plus special birthday achievements.

Co-founder and co-general manager at Chillingo, Chris Byatte, sums up the magnitude of the game best: "After two years, Angry Birds continues to delight fans and remain a steady fixture on the App Store’s top ten charts .This is quite a testament to the success indie developers can achieve with the right title, publishing partner and promotional support."

Check out the screenshots below while downloading the update. It's available now for iPhone and iPad owners.

Happy birthday you crazy, Angry Birds!

Gift Plan Released for iPhone

Posted by Brad Hilderbrand on December 3rd, 2010
iPhone App - Designed for iPhone, compatible with iPad

Right about now it can be incredibly difficult to keep track of all the various gifts which must be purchased for loved ones for the holidays. Which version of Pokemon did little Timmy want? Is Sally a size 3 or a size 4? Did Frank say that drill he wanted is on sale at Sears or Lowes? It can all be a bit overwhelming but, thanks to the new Gift Plan app, you might just manage to keep your sanity after all.

Gift Plan allows you to easily create and organize shopping lists which you can use as handy references while you're running about town. Users can put together exhaustive lists sorted in various manners such as individuals or occasions. The app also tracks spending so you can easily keep track of where you are within your shopping budget and make changes as necessary.

Beyond the holidays Gift Plan will also prove itself useful in the future, as you can easily save upcoming birthdays, anniversaries or other special gift-giving events. The app even supports importing birthdays from your contact list or Facebook, taking pretty much all the onus off of you to remember all those pesky dates. On top of all that, Gift Plan also lets you set alerts for upcoming events so you can be sure and get all your shopping done on time.

This seems to be quite an ingenious little app as it manages to merge both calendars and time management with budgeting and shopping. This is the perfect little helper for all those with long shopping lists, short memories or both. Also, it's just a great organization app in general as it lets you put all the important details about anyone on your holiday list all in one place. It's one of those apps which just seems too good to be true, but it's totally real and it's fabulous.

Happy Birthday Pac-Man!

Posted by Jeff Scott on May 22nd, 2010

Today, Pac-Man turns 30 years old!

I remember the first time I saw Pac-Man. It was in the little dark pizza place near where I lived. I must have been around 11 years old and it was one of the first video games I had ever seen. I remember dumping quarter after quarter into the machine while drinking Pepsi after Pepsi trying to get the high score. I never got the high score. Well, not until the fragile local power grid helped me out.

There had been a thunderstorm that morning, and the power was out in the whole neighborhood for a couple hours. When I went to play Pac-Man later that day, all of the high scores had been zeroed out! I finally had a chance and I did it. I got the high score. Proud of myself I headed home feeling like a king. That was until the next day when I went back and not one, but 4 people had beaten my high score with scores that I had never come close to.

Pac-Man was first released 30 years ago and in that time there have been a couple dozen off-shoot games. It's available on just about every single platform you can imagine. There was even a cartoon series for a short while.

But what we remember most is the original video game. The original is still the best.

To celebrate the birthday, Namco has decided to put all of the Pac-Man games for the iPhone and iPad on sale through Sunday evening.

Also on sale are Ms. Pac-Man, Pac-Man Championship Edition, Pac-Man Remix.

Happy Birthday Pac-Man! You don't look a day over 25!
