TheCodingMonkeys has recently updated Carcassonne, the tiling laying board game app, with two new expansions: the Winter Edition and the Double Base Tile Set.

The Winter Edition adds a custom interface, new tiles, and the Gingerbread Man to your game. The tasty treat is a delicious holiday bonus for towns that passes from player to player. The Double Base Tile Set expansion lengthens the game by simulating playing with two Carcassonne sets at the same time as many long time players often do with the real board game.

The Winter expansion can be purchased in-game for $1.99 and the Double Base Tile Set expansion is $0.99.

The weather outside is turning frightful, and it's not faring much better in whatever land Carcassonne is set in. But the indigenous meeples' loss is our gain as TheCodingMonkeys plan to release Carcassonne Winter Edition this month.

The expansion includes a secretive new character (maybe a yeti? I'll go with yeti. I know the image file is called "gingerbreadman." I'm still calling it a yeti), new cards, a "new gameplay mechanic" (most likely tied in with what I'll continue to assume is a yeti), and tons of snow. Seriously, there's snow everywhere in the Winter Edition. Even on the buttons and menus.

We don't know how much the Winter Edition expansion will cost, but if previous expansions are any indication it's probably going to be between $0.99 and $2.99. Carcassonne Winter Edition will be available as an in-app purchase on December 17.

The fifth expansion for Carcassonne has arrived, bringing with it 'The Phantom.' This new add-on includes a ghostly-transparent game piece that can be played in addition to a regular one during the players turn. If you want to learn how to use the Phantom to its fullest, the developers have also released a short strategy guide on its use.

Carcassonne is available on the App Store now for $9.99, with “The Phantom” available as an in-app purchase for $0.99.

The Princess and Dragon expansion has made its way to Carcassonne, adding new strategies with the inclusion of the Dragon, the Princess, the Fairy, and Magic Portals to the game board. The expansion is now available to download through an in-app purchase for $1.99.
