Garmin Launches viago, a Low-Priced, Feature-Packed Navigation App

Posted by on June 17th, 2014
iPhone App - Designed for iPhone, compatible with iPad

There’s a new navigation app on the market, and its name is Garmin viago.

Offering advanced navigation features at an impressively low $0.99 (rising to $1.99 from July 13), Garmin viago comes with off-board maps for many regions around the world – with turn-by-turn navigation, current speed, and speed limit details, as well as lane assist features.

Through optional in-app purchases it’s possible to buy downloadable maps, real-time traffic information, mobile speed camera alerts, directions with spoken street names, as well as many more features. The key feature here is that it’s possible to buy exactly what you want and nothing more.

Garmin viago is available now, priced at $0.99.

A Dark Room certainly ranks as one of the more unique games that I have ever played. Part of the magic of this game is that, because of the lack of any discernible tutorial, there is a very realistic sense that the character does not know what to do and is trying their best to keep their growing community going. Because of all that there really is a need for some guidance for those playing through the first time, or even those just looking for a more efficient route when booting the game up for the second or third time. That’s what I’ll attempt to do here, starting of course with waking up in a dark room.

[Note: We've tried to avoid spoilers as best we can, but even the emergent gameplay in A Dark Room could be considered spoiler territory to some. If you haven't played the game before and would rather feel your way through the first time, we advise that you hold off on reading this guide until your second attempt.]

Warhammer Quest Drops the Hammer on its Price

Posted by on June 14th, 2014
+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad

Just in time for the wrap-up of E3, Rodeo Games has dropped the price on their fantastic strategy RPG and past 148Apps Editor’s Choice award recipient, Warhammer Quest. What would once have set you back $4.99 is currently selling for a mere $0.99.

As far as we can tell there is no context for the price lowering, or for that matter any indicator as to whether this is a permanent price slashing, but it is best to assume that this is a limited time event. So move fast and snag one of the best strategy experiences that the App Store has to offer. It is a decision that you most certainly won’t regret.

Thanks to the work of studios like Double Fine, the point-and-click adventure genre has been revived on virtually every platform that offers games. A recipient of this good faith is German developer Headup Games, and their recent offering, The Inner World.

In celebration of being crowned, “Best German Game” at the German Computer Games Award 2014, the puzzler has now been marked down from $4.99 to a paltry $0.99. If a title is considered good enough to represent the best that an entire country has to offer, it has to be worth spending a buck on, right? Sounds like it is time to investigate what mysteries this “Inner World” has in store.

Who knew that iOS games could be so old? The classic strategy/adventure game Lords of Midnight actually turned thirty years old yesterday. Yes, you read that right. THIRTY YEARS OLD.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, Chilli Hugger Software, the team behind the game’s port, will be putting the usually $4.99 game and it’s sequel Doomdark’s Revenge on sale for a mere $0.99! Both titles have received solid four star reviews and have a legacy that outlives a good portion of the iOS gaming audience. It looks like now is as good a time as any to see what all the hype is about.

Castle Doombad is Only $0.99 for a Limited Time

Posted by on May 23rd, 2014
+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad

Playing the badguy can be pretty fun, as we’ve mentioned when we reviewed Castle Doombad earlier this year. But playing the badguy for super-cheap is downright awesome.

For a limited time you can jump into the shoes (scrubs?) of the infamous Dr. Lord Evilstein as he captures princesses and fends off do-gooding heroes. You’ll get to set up traps, summon minions, collect screams, and slaughter goodguys by the dozens – all for a buck. That’s a reasonable price to pay for eventual world domination, right?

Whether or not your intentions are good or ill, you can download Castle Doombad right now for $0.99.

Alone in the Dark Creeps onto the App Store – for Real this Time

Posted by on May 20th, 2014
+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad

Remember last week when we mentioned that Alone in the Dark was coming to the App Store? And remember how it didn’t? Well it turns out all it needed was a little time.

The classic Survival Horror game that predates the term “Survival Horror” (seriously, it’s over 20 years old) is now available on the App Store, for real this time. No, really, it’s totally up there. This isn’t some bizarre demonic trick or anything, honest.

You can download this little piece of gaming history right now for $0.99.

The TODAY Show co-anchor and renown weather man Al Roker has just released a new app called Al’s Weather Rokies exclusively for iOS devices. It is a cartoon-style game that incorporates real time-weather.

The game, which was created with The TODAY Show technology contributor Katie Linendoll and animator Steve Lunny, is based on a real-life experience Roker faced. The goal is to make sure a weatherman wakes up from his weather-laden dreams to get to work. It incorporates weather icons and unique characters known as “Rokies” to create the gameplay.

Roker clearly loved the process of creating the game. “Creating an app that fused animation and weather was an exciting opportunity I could not pass up. I loved being part of the creative process and sketching some of the mascots featured in the game,” he said in a press release. “I challenge everyone to WAKE ME UP!”

Al’s Weather Rokies  is available on the App Store for $0.99.
