Take a Look at the Magical Peace of MTN, a Mountain Simulation Game

Posted by on July 2nd, 2014
+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad

Imagine having your own tiny pet mountain, floating through space, needing nothing from you and yet still intriguing you with its serene beauty and occasional falling detritus from the stars. MTN, by David O’Reilly, presents us with a game that has no controls. The mountain does not need tending. It does not offer farming. It is a gently spinning safe haven from the world outside. The player can sit and watch time pass, seasons change, things grow and die off, all while the mountain babbles at you about how it is feeling that day.

MTN will bring a smile to your face for only $0.99 on the App Store.

It only seemed like a matter of time before this would happen. First Mario, then Sonic, and now Disney XD all have their own kart racing games. The rather obviously named Disney XD Grand Prix will place players behind the wheel with some of their favorite characters like Phineas, Lord Hater, Dipper, and even Steve the Llama.

Featuring tracks, power-ups and even vehicles themselves, all ripped directly from the Disney universe, this is the perfect way for everyone’s inner child to feel the need for speed.

For a limited time, Disney XD Grand Prix will be available for only $0.99 – a full 60% off of its base price! Be sure to move quick, because before you know it, the game will be return to its full price of $2.99.

+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad

Despite the fact that birthdays are commonly for receiving gifts, Magnetized‘s developer Rocky Hong has decided to turn the table and do some gift-giving of his own. In an interesting new approach to sales, the indie developer plans on holding a week-long tiered sale, where the price increases over the span of seven days.

Starting today (June 27), Magnetized will be made available on the App Store for free. On Sunday, June 29, the price will climb to $0.99, followed by a second jump to $1.99 on Tuesday, July 1. The moral of the story is “the early bird catches the worm.”

Hopefully Rocky has just as great of a birthday as he is giving to his consumers.

Alone in the Dark Updated While Nobody was Looking, and the Fixed Controls Make a Big Difference

Posted by on June 20th, 2014
+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad

It seems as though Atari managed to sneak an update to Alone in the Dark onto the App Store while nobody was looking. Perhaps under the cover of… darkness?

The new update addresses my (and everyone’s, really) biggest complaint about the game: the controls. The interface has been tweaked to the point that it’s actually possible to play the game properly, make progress, and even (dare I say it?) have fun! Fun in a nostalgic sort of way, of course. It’s still somewhat awkward and clunky to play, certainly, but now it’s due to the game being so old instead of a totally borked control scheme. In fact, it makes so much of a difference that we’ve even updated our review!

The update to Alone in the Dark is live now, and the game will set you back $0.99 if you don’t already own it.

Need for Speed Most Wanted is Currently on the Run for $0.99

A sale has raced in for EA’s Need for Speed Most Wanted, bringing the price down to $0.99. No reasoning has been given for this sudden sale, nor is there any end date for this lower price, so those of you on the fence may not have much thinking time.

For those of you looking for opinions on the quality of the game, we at 148Apps gave the game 4.5 stars back in 2012, with the game also carrying a 8.3 rating over on the QualityIndex.

iPhone App - Designed for iPhone, compatible with iPad

There’s a new navigation app on the market, and its name is Garmin viago.

Offering advanced navigation features at an impressively low $0.99 (rising to $1.99 from July 13), Garmin viago comes with off-board maps for many regions around the world – with turn-by-turn navigation, current speed, and speed limit details, as well as lane assist features.

Through optional in-app purchases it’s possible to buy downloadable maps, real-time traffic information, mobile speed camera alerts, directions with spoken street names, as well as many more features. The key feature here is that it’s possible to buy exactly what you want and nothing more.

Garmin viago is available now, priced at $0.99.

A Dark Room certainly ranks as one of the more unique games that I have ever played. Part of the magic of this game is that, because of the lack of any discernible tutorial, there is a very realistic sense that the character does not know what to do and is trying their best to keep their growing community going. Because of all that there really is a need for some guidance for those playing through the first time, or even those just looking for a more efficient route when booting the game up for the second or third time. That’s what I’ll attempt to do here, starting of course with waking up in a dark room.

[Note: We've tried to avoid spoilers as best we can, but even the emergent gameplay in A Dark Room could be considered spoiler territory to some. If you haven't played the game before and would rather feel your way through the first time, we advise that you hold off on reading this guide until your second attempt.]
