Virtual City 2: Paradise Resort Review

It's been a while coming but finally a sequel to cute and Sim City-like Virtual City has reached the App Store. It's a great game too, complex enough to be gripping but not unwelcomingly so.

Much like many of G5 Entertainment's titles, action is laid out in a mission based structure, ensuring that the player will never take off more than they can chew. This is immensely useful, given that there is a lot to take in. Fortunately, helpful tutorials gradually pave the way to understanding what the heck is going on.

Most of the time, players will be trying to maintain the careful balancing act of keeping everyone happy while helping their town or city grow. The Paradise Resort part of the title refers to the focus on tourism and entertainment, with the need to create transport links between railways and airports, amongst others, to hotels and casinos. This works alongside building regular public transport links and the all important production chain.

These production chains get fairly complex, requiring appropriate buildings to eventually create a full product. Again, things are introduced gradually so the complexity is relatively hidden away.

There are 52 levels in all, spanning four different locations. There's a smooth learning curve but later levels can get pretty hectic with the need to keep things like the environmental rating high, at the same time as the general happiness and tourism rating also. This is all part of the fun though, and will keep players keen and interested.

At times, it might feel like Virtual City 2: Paradise Resort is one of the more challenging titles in the genre. Compared to some of G5's other casual entries, it is, but its keen ability to keep things interesting is bound to keep fans playing for many hours to come.
